INTRODUCING "NYCSMOKE" NEW YORK'S BEST KEPT SECRET

Free website - Wix.com Often referred to as “New York’s Best Kept Secret,” NYCSmoke fuses all that is real and beautiful about rock n’ roll, past, present, & future. Since 2000, the band has represented the gritty Lower East Side with a blistering urban style of rock. n’ roll. The Village Voice describe NYCSmoke as “Bruce Springsteen meets the Strokes”. Others refer to the sound as “Tom Waits on speed”. “Permission to Get Down” is the band’s 4th release and the latest collection of masterfully crafted, smoothly delivered new tunes, all recorded in one day in January, 2008. Howie Statland, the brainchild of the band, spent the ‘90’s on RCA Records with his critically acclaimed band, Thin Lizard Dawn. Since then he has created NYCSmoke, several experimental films and collaborated on music for cinema with Philip Glass. NYCSmoke has shared the stage with Interpol, New York Dolls, The Bravery, They Might Be Giants, Franz Ferdinand, and Jet among other national acts. Raw guitars, driving rhythm section, and melodies that intertwine like something celestial and divine, all delivered straghit from the gritty voice of songwriter Howie Statland. On “Permission to Get Down,” one can feel the primitive spirit of rock n’ roll - The Who, Lou Reed, The Talking Heads, The Replacements, Bob Dylan, and Pearl Jam can be sensed in the workings of the sound. This is a band that makes music vibrant again, with real instrumentation and pure, old fashioned songwriting & composition. With “Permission to Get Down,” music is good again.
