Dr. Cathy Reimers, Ph.D., psychologist in New Jersey, and co-host Jennifer Russello, parent in New Jersey, discuss how giving too many gifts to children at Christmas, on birthdays and other other Holidays can harm our children psychologically. The trend of the last few generations has been getting worse and worse; parents are spending more than ever on their kids and the kids are expecting more and more. Children and adolescents have developed a sense of "entitlement" and in some cases are becoming "greedy". We are all guilty of over-gifting. Christmas mornings can be like a tidal wave of gifts, many of which are never looked at again. Sometimes it seems we give gifts just so kids will have things to open. It's not a healthy habit and it's just adding to the brewing of the Perfect Family Storm. So join us to discuss this alarming trend and ways to get back to basics and show our children how to be appreciative and not so demanding!
