    Inconsistency at its Finest

If there is one team in baseball that would be labeled as inconsistent, the Mets would have as good a chance as anyone to get that honor. They win one. They lose one. They win one. They lose two. The Mets have won two in a row only three times in their last 26 games. That is not a winning formula, and thanks to a game winner by Troy Glaus last night, the Mets are also the only team that hasn't over come a two-run deficity to win a game. That is alarming.

They showed life last night, as many of the players did produce. Delgado had a big hit late in the game and continues to be an enigma, Damion Easley made us forget about Luis Castillo and David Wright continues to be...well... David Wright. There are three players who I have bones to pick with. The first is Carlos Beltran.

In the eighth inning, with the Mets up by two, David Wright his a one-out triple. Beltran than followed that by being caught looking on a fastball that was right down the middle. Although it was a fastball, it made me think of Adam Wainwright ending the Mets hopes with Beltran at the plate in 2006. The second guy who I want to address is Brian Schneider.

Can this guy get a clutch hit? I understand that he is very qualified defensively, but he is not half the hitter that Ramon Castro is. I don't think this should be a platoon, but the Mets should consider making Ramon their everyday catcher. His pop gives them another needed weapon in the lineup and his defense is adequate as well. The last guy who I want to speak of is Pedro Martinez.

Is he done? Pedro has proven he can still throw it above 90 MPH, but that doesn't matter if you are leaving pitches right over the middle of the plate. Troy Glaus ate him for lunch in the first, and before you knew it, it was 4-0 Cardinals. The Mets mounted a comeback, but thanks to another Glaus bomb, it was all for naught. Another exiting night in Metsland...not. Tonight, the Mets send Mike Pelfrey to the hill. Keep up the good work Pelf, and stay away from the mouthpiece. This is the Daily Stache, reminding you that until next time, let the truth be told!
