Mets Public Record

A casual look at the New York Mets

    Show Recap

This week’s episode, Mets Await Return of Injured Players, opens up to the same melancholy state of mind as the previous two episodes. Anthony C. Wayne, along with thousands of other die-hard NY Mets fans, is desperately pleading for the season to end. For the past month and a half it seems that our beloved orange and blue are just going through the motions, most likely scheduling their travel plans for after the season. Wayne and co-host Tommy Romero fearlessly breeze through this week’s News and Notes and delve right into the current MLB pennant races. It’s no coincidence that perennial stalwarts such as the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, or the Angels for that matter, are joined by our cross-town rivals, the NY Yankees and are headed to the playoffs again. Aside from the possible return of the Texas Rangers and the San Francisco Giants to the post season, this year’s have-nots are left with nothing to show for it.

After agreeing that Carl Crawford of the Tampa Bay Rays would be a nice addition for the Mets in left-field, Anthony C. Wayne and Tommy Romero are caught off guard when they receive a long-distance call via Skype from a Mid-western-style Mets fan. Pat, listening in from good, old Springfield, IL, wonders why people don’t give a rat’s “patute” about baseball since the strike and strongly feels that veteran ball players, old farts as he calls them, should quit and give some young player a shot. In need of a good laugh, Wayne decides to stick with Pat as he rants and raves about the over-stimulation of our youth, the need to acquire one of those new “antennie boxes” for your TV, and the side effects of hand-held Atari games.

After admitting he’s a Mets fan, Pat faults the Dodgers for moving to Los Angeles and hanging out with the hippies who talk to crystals in “kooky-land.” Keeping it Mets-related, Romero adds his two cents by asking fans to be patient with this current Mets team. Pat wants Mets fans to get behind them and support them. The conversation then turns towards the topic of steroids. We are then enlightened again by the return of Johnny C, a fan of the show, who is contemplating retirement and asks us to keep the faith in the Mets as they are sure to make a comeback.

The show runs long for the third straight episode to allow for the popular segment, Mets Higher or Lower. Wayne and Romero argue back and forth regarding the frustration of Jose Reyes and who’s heading to the Mets bullpen next year, John Maine or Bobby Parnell.
