Going to college for some can be a rewarding experience. As a young person, one can see their future being very bright as they embark on this new and interesting life inviting them into adulthood and freedom of choice.As older adults, college represents new beginnings, and a chance to meet others that are of like minds, and seem to have great goals for them and their families.Unfortunately, the cost of seeking higher education is very expensive, whereas in other countries it is free. Why is this? The United States is considered to be very progressive in it's thinking as a country...to some.Does the cost of college exclude you or your loved ones from attending? Join us on Tuesday March 22, 2016 where we will speak with two guests concerning the cost of college and how they managed to pay for it.
First up will be Derrius Quarels author of The Million Dollar Scholar. Million Dollar Scholar is the culmination of his eagerness to see other students succeed, especially those who face disadvantages that often act as barriers to a college education. It is Derrius’ hope that all students, no matter what their background, can realize that they are Million Dollar Scholars and that it is very possible to obtain the funds for a post-secondary education.
Next, we have the pleasure of speaking to Shay Spivey-Mays, author of How to Submit a Winning Scholarship Application: Secret Techniques for Submitting a winning scholarships application package. As a single mother working a regular 9-5, Ms. Mays had to figure out how to work, gain money for college, and raise a family. Through this process she was able to gain her MSW and BSW and has created the Scholarship Advisor Program.
