What is Transhumanism?

Join Us, Alex Primo and Zhe Levels Scott on Saturday January 2, 2015 at 9pm EST as they discuss Transhumanism.

Oxford defines Transhumanism as: The belief or theory that the human race can evolve beyond its current physical and mental limitations, especially by means of science and technology.

Oxford Professor Ray Kurzweil has made it his life's work to pursue technologies that will make the singularity occur by 2050. The singularity is when man and machine become one to create humanity 2.0.

If you merge man and machine, is it still a man? Or are we dealing with an entirely new entity? We will discuss this question and more from various scientific, philosophical, and religious perspectives.

For those who are more advanced you might recognize that the concept of transhumanism is not modern, but actually thousands of years old going back to ancient times.

Movies like Transcendence, Iron Man, and the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse exemplify man's desire to improve himself beyond his original form.
