Speaking seems so easy to understand, until we remember that our tongues can be used as love or as a sword AND that those words don’t necessarily have to be spoken out loud. There are many books on what you say or don’t say to yourself. Shad Helmstetter’s books which came out in the mid-80’s talks about whatever we’re saying to ourselves has the potentiality of building us up or breaking us down. When we use prayer and meditation in our daily lives we can remember what not to say. Even though if we suddenly forget our daily practice, because you know that we need that time alone to hear that still small voice—we sometimes get ourselves into serious situations or chaotic situations.

Memory is a beautiful thing, though because with memory we can pull ourselves out of whatever slump we’re going through by filling our atmosphere with affirmative words, thoughts and deeds.
