Western State Hospital has caused a forced separation and is preventing her from seeing her son. On Day 13 of her hunger strike, Cindi Fisher reports that she has lost weight from a beginning weight of 175 pounds down to 164 1/2  pounds. Cindi Fisher concluded her hunger strike on 2/6/13 when she reached 158 pounds and began to eat again. She, however, reports that her resolve, to continue to demonstrate for justice for her son, is unwavering. In response to her frustration to have officials acknowledge the harm the system was doing to her son, Cindi Fisher started a non-profit organization called Movement Of Mothers Standing-up-together or MOMS. MOMS advocates for trauma informed, psycho-social care with no or low dose psychiatric medications, in a non-coercive setting. She has held protest fasts before on her son's behalf. These MOMS have fasted over 100 days in one year and walked a 100 miles to have their voices and concerns amplified. This means that the person involved should have legal capacity to give consent; should be so situated as to be able to exercise free power of choice, without the intervention of any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, or coercion.  It is clear that these children had not been consulted and did not give consent to be research subjects. 00:31:00MedicalWhistleblowernohuman rights,Nuremberg Code,Corporal Punishment,Child Abuse,Human SubjectsToday we welcome Robert Straley who will share with us his personal insights about the infamous "White House" punishment room where floggings with leather whipAbused Boys - White House, Marianna, Floridahttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/10/abused-boys--white-house-marianna-floridaHealthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/10/abused-boys--white-house-marianna-florida/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/10/abused-boys--white-house-marianna-floridaMon, 10 Oct 2011 17:00:00 GMTAbused Boys - White House, Marianna, Florida The Florida School for Boys - Reform School was located on 1500 acres of land in the North Florida woods.  It was alleged that this was a place of unspeakable horrors for the American children imprisoned there. There was chronic physical abuse of children at the Arthur G. Dozier School for Boys and there are allegations of sexual abuse as well at this high-risk residential commitment facility for boys 13-21 years of age.   The management and affairs of the School have been run under a number of different names and entities during the last 109 years. Former students who attended the reformatory school during the late 1950’s through 1960’s alleged that during their tenure they were subjected to repeated physical abuse by staff members as a form of discipline.  Today's guest will Roger Kiser who was a student from June 1959-March 1960. He will be sharing his own personal knowledge of what occurred at the White House in Florida.  This abuse was finally investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.  There were graves of more than 30 unidentified bodies some of which were beaten to death at the old Florida School for Boys at Marianna.  It is also suspected that there are many more bodies to be found in the fields and swamplands surrounding the institution.  The Florida Department of Law Enforcement did an investigation into the unmarked graves and interviewed the many grown men who had seen the abuses there.  Finally the White House where the abuse took place was closed on Oct. 21, 2008. 00:31:00MedicalWhistleblowernoChild Abuse,White House Boys,Florida,Corporal Punishment,Child WelfareThe Florida School for Boys - Reform School was located on 1500 acres of land in the North Florida woods.  It was alleged that this was a place of unspeakableAlternatives to Violence - Making a Difference to Prisonershttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/07/alternatives-to-violence--making-a-difference-to-prisonersPsychologyhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/07/alternatives-to-violence--making-a-difference-to-prisoners/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/07/alternatives-to-violence--making-a-difference-to-prisonersFri, 07 Oct 2011 22:00:00 GMTAlternatives to Violence - Making a Difference to Prisoners The Alternatives to Violence program works with prisoners while in prison to teach them non-violent ways to deal with conflict in their lives.  Violence we encounter in our everyday life  can be verbal and emotional.   Violence knows no class, racial, economic or geographical boundaries.  Over ninety percent of prisoners eventually return to society -- from a prison experience that encourages violence.   Today we will hear from a former prisoner, Herb Blake, who participated in this program and who gained valuable perspectives on his own life and the goals for his own future from being involved with Alternatives to Violence. 00:29:00MedicalWhistleblowernoPrison,Violence,Law Enforcement,Non-violence,Re-entryThe Alternatives to Violence program works with prisoners while in prison to teach them non-violent ways to deal with conflict in their lives.  Violence we encColumbine Shootings - Lingering Concerns over SSRI drugshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/03/columbine-shootings--lingering-concerns-over-ssri-drugsPsychologyhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/03/columbine-shootings--lingering-concerns-over-ssri-drugs/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/10/03/columbine-shootings--lingering-concerns-over-ssri-drugsMon, 03 Oct 2011 17:00:00 GMTColumbine Shootings - Lingering Concerns over SSRI drugs Today we look back at the Columbine School massacre with the mother of one of the victims of that terrible shooting.   Donna Taylor has agreed to share her own experience as a mother whose child was shot by a school classmate.   Donna Taylor comes forward to talk about her continuing concerns about the use of anti-depressants and SSRI drugs and their potential to increase violent tendencies in patients who take these psychiatric medications.  Her son, Mark Taylor was only a high school student when he had sustained terrible injuries during the violent shooting spree at the Columbine school. Mark had suffered incredible blood loss resulting from 7 - 13 bullets as he laid on the ground at Columbine for almost 2 hours help could arrive. That traumatic memory will always remain with Mark Taylor, the memories of the shooting and lying there helpless for two hours with bullets whizzing around him while bleeding from nearly a dozen bullet wounds. Miraculously, Mark showed courage, strength and resiliency and eventually went on to a full medical recovery.  With his mother’s support and love,  Mark was brave enough to testify before the FDA.   Because of his horrendous experience, Mark Taylor became a truth teller regarding the dangers of antidepressants and SSRI medications and how those medications cause patients to have violent thoughts, homicidal ideations and thoughts of suicide. These drugs have long been known to have these severe side effects and there is a black box warning about this required by the FDA to be put on these medications. But doctors ignore these warnings and give these medications to patients anyway. One of these patients receiving this kind of medication was Eric Harris, the student who decided that fateful day to shoot and kill his fellow students at Columbine. 00:30:00MedicalWhistleblowernoColumbine Shooting,School Violence,Gun Violence,SSRI,Mental HealthToday we look back at the Columbine School massacre with the mother of one of the victims of that terrible shooting.   Donna Taylor has agreed to share her ownRemembering the September 2001 tragedy http://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/09/11/remembering-the-september-2001-tragedyHealthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/09/11/remembering-the-september-2001-tragedy/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2011/09/11/remembering-the-september-2001-tragedySun, 11 Sep 2011 21:00:00 GMTRemembering the September 2001 tragedy We gather together today as a community to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy. Today we hear from clients of the former Straight Inc and what really happened in the drug rehabilitation program for teens. As many as 50,000 kids were in the Straight program, Straight, Inc. is the biggest violator of human rights and civil liberties that this country has ever seen. In 1985 the Semblers, fearing civil suits by the victims of the abuse and fearing possible criminal prosecution, changed the mission of Straight, Inc. from "treatment" to "education" and its name from "Straight, Inc." to "Straight Foundation, Inc." In 1995, two years after Straight had to be closed, Betty Sembler changed the name of the educational foundation again to the Drug Free America Foundation (DFAF). So today Straight has morphed into an organization called Drug Free America Foundation, which specializes in helping small businesses set up Drug Free Workplaces, and in promoting national and international drug policy.01:29:00MedicalWhistleblowernoChild Abuse,Torture,Human Rights,Teen Rehabilitation,Drug RehabilitationFor 17 years Melvin Sembler and his wife Betty operated one of the most destructive and world’s largest chain of juvenile rehabilitation programs, Straight, IHuman Rights and Workplace Evaluationshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2010/12/08/human-rights-and-workplace-evaluationsHealthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2010/12/08/human-rights-and-workplace-evaluations/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2010/12/08/human-rights-and-workplace-evaluationsWed, 08 Dec 2010 23:00:00 GMTHuman Rights and Workplace EvaluationsIndustry Employed Physicians(IEP) are Physicians-employed by businesses or insurance companies for the purpose of conducting medical examinations. They may have clear conflict of interest with the interests of the patient. They are used for employment, pre-employment, and work-related examinations, and for monitoring employees’ health in the workplace. In the Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, the United Nations calls upon professionals to uphold human rights and freedoms. There can be a conflict of loyalty that occurs when a doctor has an obligation to a third party rather than to the patient. When a doctor is asked to perform a forensic evaluation on a patient for an employer there can be a loyalty to those paying for that examination – the police service, the medical board, the insurance company, the state agency etc. There is a conflict because there are human rights at stake. It is the duty of the forensic medical practitioner to be honest and fair in documenting injuries and evidence. Even if accurate documentation will be contrary to the interests of the employer (the state), doctors must ethically always maintain their impartiality. To give in to third-party pressure may lead to a violation of the patient’s interests. Yet often these Industry Employed Physicians are biased in their evaluations. It is not sufficient to be neutral when it amounts to a failure to protect patients’ rights. Turning a blind eye to violations and abuses of human rights is not consistent with the medical professional code. The only role that clinical forensic medical practitioners should play is that of HUMAN RIGHT DEFENDER. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernoMedicalWhistleblower,Workplace Evaluations,Health and Safety,Medical,Human RightsIndustry Employed Physicians(IEP) are Physicians-employed by businesses or insurance companies for the purpose of conducting medical examinations. These two young women have been directly working with No More Deaths to end death and suffering on the U.S./Mexico border through civil initiative. The mission of No More Deaths began with the conviction that people of conscience must work openly and in community to uphold fundamental human rights. A morally intolerable situation inspired a remarkable humanitarian movement in Southern Arizona in the spring of 2004. Driven by economic inequality, thwarted by ill-conceived US border policy, and ignorant of the harsh conditions of the Sonoran Desert, more than 2000 men, women, and children have died trying to cross the Mexican border into the United States since 1998. The information brought to light by the No More Deaths organization shows that most of the deaths occurred in the brutal heat of the summer months. Diverse faith-based and social activist groups—along with concerned individuals—felt compelled to act to stem the death tide and attempt to save at least some lives. The result was the converging of hundreds of volunteers—local, regional and national—who came together to work for one common goal: No Más Muertes: No More Deaths. The work of No More Deaths embraces the Faith-Based Principles for Immigration Reform and focuses on • direct aid that extends the right to provide humanitarian assistance as well witnessing and responding and raising global awareness which will ultimately encourage a more humane immigration policy. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernoHuman Rights,Immigration Reform,Hispanic,Medical Whistleblower,Border ControlTonight we welcome two volunteers Brenna Daldorph and Sonya Navarro from the No More Deaths Organization. Three in 10 of the nation's homeless adults report foster care history. This points out an obvious problem within our social service network. We must be failing these needy children. There are inadequacies in supervision of the placement of these children, clear indications of corruption within the system as well as neglect of the children’s needs. Child placement agencies, foster parents, and residential treatment centers get paid a daily sum for the care of a foster child. These allocated amounts are based on the Federal entitlement system IV-e and are based on the level of care the child needs. The more difficult the child is to care for the higher the daily payment for care. Thus it is in the interest of the state agencies, social service workers, foster parents, and therapeutic clinicians to make the child appear on paper to need the highest level of care possible. Many foster children are labeled with more than one psychological diagnosis in order to upgrade their status to a higher level. Foster care daily rates run from $17 per day to $1,000 per day. A child diagnosed with a mental disorder and placed on psychiatric drugs is worth more than a child without problems. Let us hear first hand from some of these foster children who were interviewed at a Foster Care Alumni meeting and asked about their experiences in Child Protective Services while still wards of the state. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernoFoster Care,Welfare,Mental Health,Child Abuse,Psychiatric drugsIt has been estimated that 70% of the US prison population was once in foster care. We will be talking today about how pilots are responsible to report issues of airplane maintenance and safety and what happens when they do. The Colgan Air Flight 3407 departed late from Newark on February 12, 2009, at 9:20 p.m. EST. Shortly after the last communication by the flight crew with approach control at 10:11 p.m. the plane stalled and crashed into a house in the northeast Buffalo suburb of Clarence Center. Could this plane disaster have been avoided if only airline management listen to the whistleblowers? The total number of reported fatalities was 50, including all four crew members and one off duty crew-member, all 44 passengers, and one resident of the house that was struck. Listen to these experienced pilots as they tell you the real behind the scenes story. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernoAirplane Disaster,Airlines,Airline Safety,Colgan Air Flight 3407,Aiplane CrashThe traveling public owe their safety in the air to those who behind the scenes maintain air flight safety. In spite of clear indications that certain drugs are not safe, the pharmaceutical representatives continue to push these medications on vulnerable patients and utilize bribes and coercion to get primary physicians to prescribe dangerous drugs. Research findings pointing out the dangerous side effects of these medications are suppressed and the Food and Drug Administration deceived in order to obtain licensing. Psychotropic medications in particular are pushed on vulnerable populations, such as children, the elderly, people in prison, the homeless and welfare recipients. Zyprexa and Prozac, drugs manufactured by Eli Lilly, has been marketed as a chemical restraint agent to be used on hyperactive children and unruly elderly patients. Information regarding adverse side effects including death and long term disability have been suppressed not only to the press but to the US governments own internal reporting system meant to catch problems of drugs when they are first placed on the market. Researchers are threatened to be silent about problems identified during clinical trials and bribed if they participate in the cover up. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernomedical fraud, pharmaceutical industry, whistleblower, medical ethics, quality of careMedical Whistleblower will be examining the Pharmaceutical Industry use of it's financial and political power to control the medical community. We will be discussing how hostile medical evaluations can be used to silent dissent and the reporting of fraud, mismanagement, corruption and safety issues within the airline industry. This will be a personal account by airline pilots with many years of experience who were retaliated against for standing up courageously and doing the right thing. These Transportation Whistleblowers are our leaders and important spokespersons for passenger safety. Just like the coal mine canaries, our Medical Whistleblowers show the effects of being exposed to the toxic work environment that the bullies in the workplace create. The sick canary is a sure sign that the air in the coal shaft is toxic and that management should change something or face the consequences. Today we will be learning about some of the ways they silence the whistleblowing canary. Our guests will share their own personal experiences. The clear signal to management should be for there to be change however instead many times the canary is treated like a no good trouble maker. False allegations against the canary’s professional competence and even personal character are common. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernoWhistleblower,workplace evaluations, toxic workplace, workplace harassment, bullyToday our guest is Dan Hanley, a veteran airline pilot and Transportation Whistleblower. This is especially important in the wake of the recent $1.4 billion settlement from drug maker, Eli Lilly. John Virapen used to be the executive director of the Swedish branch of Eli Lilly & Company, one of the biggest internationally active pharmaceutical companies. Dr. John Virapen has been working for more than 35 years for the pharmaceutical industry, as manager for several companies such as Eli-Lilly and Novo Nordisk. He lives now in Germany and has written a book, Side Effects: Death which is currently a best seller in Europe about his experiences which is available in English, Swedish and German. While working for Eli Lilly, John Virapen engaged in the development of aggressive marketing strategies, and can speak about massive corruption within the pharmaceutical industry. Pharmaceutical companies invest the considerable amount of 35,000 Euro per year and physician to get the physicians to prescribe their products. John Virapen says that more than 75 percent of leading scientists in the field of medicine are paid for by the pharmaceutical industry. In some cases corruption prevailed in the approval and marketing of drugs. John Virapen writes that illnesses are made up by the pharmaceutical industry and specifically marketed to enhance sales and market shares for the companies in question. Pharmaceutical companies increasingly target children. There have been years of withheld information regarding the adverse side effects of pharmaceuticals promoted by Eli Lilly, including the possible role of Prozac in inducing suicide and homicide. The signs of drug induced violence and suicidality were there since Prozac was first tested in pre-marketing trials. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernomedical fraud, pharmaceutical industry, whistleblower, medical ethics, quality of careMedical Whistleblower will be interviewing Former Eli Lilly executive, Dr. John Virapen Ph.D. He will be revealing his knowledge of the pharmaceutical industryMedical Whistleblower - Universal Health Care for Allhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2009/07/25/medical-whistleblower-universal-health-care-for-allHealthhttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2009/07/25/medical-whistleblower-universal-health-care-for-all/#commentshttp://www.blogtalkradio.com/medicalwhistleblower/2009/07/25/medical-whistleblower-universal-health-care-for-allSat, 25 Jul 2009 22:00:00 GMTMedical Whistleblower - Universal Health Care for AllWe are now finding the necessity of a health care revolution not just a changing of the guard. We have too many people in the United States who can not obtain or afford health care. Health Care Insurance does not guarantee coverage for everyone. Health Insurance Companies are in the business of making profit. Profit in their eyes is charging the most and giving out the least in health care benefits. This middle man is sapping the economic viability right out of our health care system. We need to keep a real public option on the table, one that provides for all the people in a reasonable and affordable way. Health Care must be able to be transferred with the patient when their financial and employment situation changes. Employers especially small business owners are finding it harder and harder to afford to provide health care to their employees. We need true reform not just empty promises. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernoHealth Care,Health Care Reform,Public Health,Universal Health Care,Health Care for AllWe are now finding the necessity of a health care revolution not just a changing of the guard. How is it different from other crimes? How does it impact victims? Let's hear from some victims of hate crime and see from a personal perspective how truly violating these crimes really are. We are reminded by the recent violence in Wichita, Kansas of the insidious nature of hate crime. The murder of a doctor who ran a women's clinic in Wichita is said to have been done by an abortion opponent. Referring to the killing of Kansas doctor George Tiller, Attorney General Eric Holder said nothing can justify the act. There was the shooting death of a security guard at the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, said to be by a self-avowed white supremacist and the shooting of two U.S. soldiers in Little Rock, Arkansas, which prosecutors say was committed by a man targeting the U.S. military for what it had done to Muslims. All these crimes qualify as hate crimes. Just how many hate crimes are there in the United States? How well do we investigate them? Do we get some measure of justice for the victims? Eric Holder stated that "We will not tolerate murder or the threat of violence masquerading as political activism," he said. "And we will do all that we can to deter violence against reproductive health care providers and to prosecute those who commit such violence to the fullest extent of the law." Thus the head of our Department of Justice, Eric Holder has renewed his call for stronger hate crimes legislation and given his support to the Matthew Shepard Hate Crimes Prevention Act, which is expected to go before the Senate for a vote soon. 01:00:00MedicalWhistleblowernoHate Crimes,Human Rights,Civil Rights,Medical Whistleblower,Law EnforcementWhat is a Hate Crime?
