    Dangerous Political Liaisons

If I, or any consultant of the fair sex, were to be accused of affair every time we were alone with a client, fellow consultant, pollster, elected official, or senior staffer - there wouldn’t be enough time in the day to do anything else.

If every time a male consultant levied such accusations, a newspaper picked up the story - there would never be enough ink, nor enough paper, to print it on.

Such is the nature of life in DC.  Women come there for the same reason men do -to make a difference.  The rivalries often result is hurt feelings, career drama, and broken trust among colleagues.

Senator John McCain is under assault from the New York Times, The Washington Post, and other media outlets scrambling to get a hold on the facts.  Earlier today, he held a subdued news conference - with wife Cindy McCain at his side, where he denied the innuendo - as the NYT stories imply rather than outright allege a sexual affair.  Of interest to me, was the stories are based upon the words of some former consultants for McCain.  I can’t even BEGIN to tell you how suspect that seems.  Angry male staffers, pretending to care about a former client who fired them, leveling charges against a woman - blaming her for all their ills, well - it’s a little too Judas for me.

The lobbyist, Vicki Iseman, is a partner at the firm Alcade & Fay.  They just issued a statement on her behalf.  They categorically deny the New York Times story, noting the “allegations and malicious innuendo are completely & utterly false” and they reiterate that Ms. Iseman’s relationship was always professional and appropriate.
