He also wrote a column this week on The Daily Beast headlined, "How Iran's Hackers Killed Big Brother," about the Twitter uprising and what it means for the country.

Staying in Iran, we'll discuss why there are fewer journalists in the country now, and there are fewer media mergers as well.

Ferrazzi will speak on day 2 of the Mediabistro Circus about "the important role of relationships in getting ahead.

  • Original Air Date:

Wine Guy Gary Vaynerchuk on the Menu

    Gary Vaynerchuk

May 28 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast we're joined by Wine Library TV host (and more), Gary Vaynerchuk.

Vaynerchuk has turned his wine video podcast into a huge personal brand: he has a big following on the social networks, regularly appears on TV and releases the first book, "Crush It!" out of his seven-figure book deal in October.

He brings his energy to a session at the Mediabistro Circus (June 2-3, NYC), where he'll discuss "pursuing your passion, distancing yourself from the competition and growing your brand." There are still tickets available here.

"We're living through a shocking change in our society," says Vaynerchuk. "This stuff has not started. We're in a 40 extra inning game, and we haven't even put our clothes on to drive to the stadium."

Also discussed: what companies are doing right (and wrong) in their use of Twitter, why people thought he "lost his mind" when he first started his video podcast, Gawker's line-blurring Bloodcopy campaign and what wine under $15 to drink during your summer BBQ.

  • Original Air Date:

Sonia Sotomayor: How is Media Covering?

May 27 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we're joined by ABC News senior political reporter Rick Klein.

Klein is tapped into what Washington is saying — he's the author of the well-read blog "The Note" as well as host of the ABC News Now show "Top Line." We'll talk to him the selection of Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, and what the media will be talking about in the days and weeks to come.

There seems to be a focus on two key comments Sotomayor has made, one on video about the role of the appellate court, and the other in writing about life experience. "The fact that one is on video will answer which one we'll see more," he says. "I think both of them are going to be in wide circulation. They are, for a lot of folks, killers and absolute game-changers. There is, I think, compelling and interesting explanations behind each of those pieces of information."

Also discussed from the newsfeed: the New York Times' new social media editor (Klein is on Twitter as well) and the success of a personalized magazine.

  • Original Air Date:

Did the NYT Have Watergate Tip Before WaPo?

May 26 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast we're joined by new FishbowlNY editor Amanda Ernst.

Did the New York Times have the Watergate scandal tip even earlier than Woodward and Bernstein put the pieces together for the Washington Post? So says a New York Times article. We'll discuss the implications, as well as a couple other stories from the newsfeed: Twitter's new TV show and Republicans flocking to HuffPost.

Also discussed: the breaking news of Pres. Obama's Supreme Court nominee, Sonia Sotomayor.

  • Original Air Date:

CNN's David Bohrman on the Menu

May 22 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast we finish up our first "Decision-Maker Week" with CNN SVP David Bohrman.

The Washington bureau chief is responsible for bringing the "Magic Wall" and other pieces of technology to the CNN audience. We'll talk to him about what's coming up next.

Bohrman was in New York earlier this week to accept the Peabody Award for the network's election coverage, when CNN had huge ratings. But how does CNN keep those ratings up without special political events?

Bohrman put on his D.C. bureau chief hat and gave his take on John King's "State of the Union." "I think John's program will come to dominate Sunday talk," he said.

Also discussed: the "rare" way CNN won their Peabody award, what went right and wrong with the infamous "Hologram" (which Bohrman has wanted on air since 1996), how CNN plans to compete with its cable competitors in the ratings and What We Learned This Week (featuring former VP Cheney).

  • Original Air Date:

Fox News' Michael Clemente on the Menu

May 21 - "Decision-Maker Week" on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu podcast continues tomorrow with Fox News SVP of news editorial, Michael Clemente.

We'll talk to Clemente about the network's dominating ratings since the Obama administration began — leaving them eyeing the outright cable network lead rather than just cable news.

Clemente left ABC News in February to join FNC, and has already taken on more responsibility at the network, since John Moody moved to a job within News Corp.

Clemente talked about the success of Fox News. "We usually say here and elsewhere, it always feels better to win," he said. "Winning in this business means getting the story right, and people understand that over time. I think, they understand that our people care about what they're saying, they're as interested in what they're reporting on as the viewers might be, and it all comes through. At the end of the day, when we're done doing our jobs, and you get a report on the numbers...it's a good feeling."

Also discussed: the differences (and similarities) between network and cable news, some possible weekend programming changes, advice Moody gave Clemente and, why not, the American Idol finale last night.

  • Original Air Date:

    Businessweek.com Editor John Byrne

May 20 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we're joined by Businessweek.com editor-in-chief John Byrne.

We'll talk to Byrne about running the Web component to the print magazine, and how the world's overlap. We'll also discuss what's on the horizon at the site.

Byrne will be speaking at the Mediabistro Circus (June 2-3 in New York) about how Businessweek.com has "implemented digital initiatives across the company to maximize opportunities online." We'll get a preview.
