    Miles O'Brien Looks Ahead

    Miles O'Brien

February 27 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we're joined by former CNN correspondent Miles O'Brien.

O'Brien had been CNN's aviation correspondent, but was let go in December. Then, a plane landed in the Hudson, and a plane crashed in Buffalo.

O'Brien tells us what's next for him, which includes an upcoming PBS special, and looks back at his time with CNN.

"People are thirsty for information from sources they feel they can trust," he says. "And they will seek you out. And in the blog world you do get linked and re-linked and bounced around that echo chamber in ways that are extremely effective."

What's not always effective is how O'Brien views TV reporting on aviation. "Aviation is something I know very well, so when I watch the coverage in general I'm horrified about the things that are reported and the inaccuracies that get out there in the moment when there's still a smoldering hole in the ground," he says.

    Ali Velshi

February 25 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we're joined by CNN's Ali Velshi.

CNN's chief business correspondent will give his thoughts on Obama's address, the Santelli Rant, covering the crisis and more.

Velshi gave his take on the speech. "Part of the job of the President in this speech was to say, 'okay we've got these programs through, we're on top of the game,' but to sort of instill some hope for the future," he said. But: "I thought there was a great opportunity to say something a little more specifically about what's going on right now, and he missed that."

  • Original Air Date:

    D.C. Twitterers With Patrick Gavin

February 24 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we're joined by Politico reporter (and former FishbowlDC editor) Patrick Gavin.

Gavin's list of D.C.'s top 10 most influential Twitterers was talked about throughout the day yesterday -- by those on it, and those who didn't make the cut.

We'll also talk about the rest of the media news of the day.

February 23 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we talk about the Oscars and the rest of the media news from the weekend.

And, oh yeah, we recap what happened on Friday -- including a Rush Limbaugh Show shout out.

Listen to what the radio icon had to say about the podcast.

Also discussed: the NAACP calls for the editor of the New York Post to be fired and tweeting journalists.

  • Original Air Date:

ABC's Terry Moran Talks Tweeting on AF1 and More

    Terry Moran

February 20 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we're joined by ABC's Terry Moran.

Fresh off a trip to Arizona covering President Barack Obama, Moran will talk about covering the new adminstration, tweeting from aboard Air Force One and more.

"In some ways Barack Obama is the first president since George Washington to be taking a step down into the oval office," he said. "From visionary leader of a giant movement, now he's got an executive position that he has to perform in, in a way, and I think the coverage reflects that."

Before Nightline, Moran spent six years as chief White House correspondent for ABC. "There's something in the White House press corp, which is healthy, where you're judged by your peers to some extend on how tough you can be, how sharp your questions are, how aggressive your coverage is," he said. "That's the standard for success among White House reporters...For many White House reporters, they wake up thinking, 'How do I take a pound of flesh out of the President today?'"

  • Original Air Date:

Mediabistro.com Founder Laurel Touby AND Jon Fine

    Laurel Touby

February 19 - Today on the mediabistro.com Morning Media Menu we're joined by our boss!

mediabistro.com founder Laurel Touby joins us to talk about what's coming up at mediabistro.com, the future of online media and more.

And in addition to Touby, we'll also be joined by Businessweek columnist Jon Fine, Businessweek columnist.

"Every single story we're talking about we listed off some newspaper web site," said Touby of online content. "Picture a world without media, without news, without digital reporting," said Touby. "First of all you're making the assumption that newspapers are the only media, I love newspapers, I subscribe to two of them...but the idea that newspapers will be the only way news is produced is just patently silly," said Fine.

Touby's quote of the podcast: "The tactile sensation of a magazine in bed is better than the tactile sensation of a warm, hot laptop on your lap...oh, maybe I take that back."
