I talked with Mary Mackey about her spiritual path and professional work.
Mary graduated from The University of The Pacific in Stockton CA. in 2000 with her M.S. Degree in Speech Pathology. She provides therapy services for children and adults with communication and swallowing disorders. She works in education with children age 3-21 as well as in a rehab setting. She provides inpatient services, home health, acute care and outpatient therapy for individuals up to age 101. She currently lives in rural Idaho as a self-employed Speech and Language Pathologist.
Mary is the mother of 3 adult children and grandma to 2. She is the wife of a building contractor and assists the nursing home with her mother’s care, taking her to her Dr’s appointments, communicating with staff on her mother’s behalf and visiting daily. She loves the outdoors and with her husband Stacy she backpacks every summer in the mountains of CA and ID.
Although not aligned with any religion or tradition, Mary considers spirituality a catalyst for healing and inner peace not only in her life but the lives of her patients. Through her own process of healing first from a stroke at age 41, then from a lifelong anxiety disorder at age 47, she is able to relate personally with her patients that are going through very scary and difficult times. Mary connects easily with people from all types of backgrounds. Her desire for a happy and healthy life has brought her to study the teachings of Christian Damek, Eckhart Tolle, Don Miguel Ruiz, and many others. Living in the country sparked a desire to connect online with other individuals with similar interests in philosophy and healing. There she is a member of a group called: Bridgers-Reaching for Students and Reaching to Teach. She shares and learns principles that can be applied simply to one’s self that transform a life of struggle into a peaceful knowing that can be applied to any situation.
