Call in to speak with the host
I talked with John Clark about human development.
Sigmund Freud marks the beginning of modern psychology. His theory of the human mind includes a theory of human development. Since this beginning, many models have been proposed for human development; however, it wasn't until the 1950s that a lifespan development model was proposed by Eric Erikson. Erikson's model is called a stage model of development.
In the spiritual dimension James Fowler proposed a model he calls "Stages of Faith", which combines the spiritual and the psychological development process. Fowler's model is also a stage model. In response to the limitations of stage models, other models have been proposed that are more relational. We will discuss some of the models in the following list and look for commonality in what they attempt to describe.
Stage models Spiral models Stage/relational models
I have also developed a hybrid model of the human communication integrated with the psychosynthesis model of the human psyche and the psychosynthesis model of human development.
