Self-Esteem Affects Marriage

Because marriage is the most intimate of all relationships, self-esteem is a major issue. People who are not sure of themselves often cannot open themselves to intimacy because it is too threatening. Honest communication is difficult because intimacy requires dropping masks and barriers and letting others see you as you really are. People who cannot like themselves are unlikely to show their true selves to another person.
