A VIOLENCE DISRUPTED documents a new type of community policing - one where the gang members themselves become the crime-fighters. To do this, they journey into the core of the LA gang world where killing is commonplace. Here they find rival gang members working together, and being trained by the city, in this new and risky model of peacemaking. It is messy, but it’s working: LA times reports Monday, Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says, “L.A. (Now) has the lowest violent crime per capita of any big city."
On this episode we talk with Nikki Hevesy producer and director of the documentary to learn about the effects of A Violence Disrupted.
Nikki Hevesy, founder of Through the Glass Productions is an award-winning director who has worked in the mediums of theatre, video and film.
