Owning the Present

A favorite  personal saying:

My Past belongs to my Critics -

My Future belongs to my Lord -

But the Present is my Possession.

I know many people, inside and outside of the church, who talk about the past as though they can change it, or talk about the future as they they direct it.  In the meantime, their focus on things past or what they hope may be to come takes their attention away from the here and now.  With such behavior the Lord is not pleased.

God wants His people to be and remain not just "in the moment", but "in this moment".  We need to let what has occurred grow smaller in our spiritual rear-view mirror while not trying to arrive at the next destination ahead of the life vehicle in which we ride.  However, creatures with a finite lifespan have the bad habit of seeking to occupy a time-frame other than the one in which they exist. Only the present matters; it is the only time-frame in which our efforts can be made and have definitive meaning.
