Women Making a Difference w/Dr Krista Ratcliffe & Donna Farrell of MARQUETTE U

    Hey Everyone-
YEA!!!  Anytime I get to talk about my aluma mater is a FABULOUS show!

Marquette University is celebrating 100 years of women at Marquette.  Did you know that Marquette was THE FIRST catholic university to admit women-COED, UNDERGRADUATE in the world?  (I didn't either until today-yikes).  And that Father McCabe really led the way, all the way to ROME as a matter of fact, to get women enrolled at Marquette....Although as we learned, as he "waited" for Rome's response (3 years) women were already attending classes!  Yea, Father McCabe-a true visionary and proponent of women's rights!  Father McCabe went on to replicate what he did at Marquette to Xavier University as well...

    Read MORE history at: http://www.marquette.edu/women100/about/

Dr Ratcliffe (Kris) and Donna were incredible guests, who along with their obvious love of Marquette, shared a bit of their bios (Donna is the winner of the Mary Neville Bielefeld award and is the former president of AMUW, and is a former Reading Specialist for Waukesha Public Schools.  Kris is a professor & Dept Chair of English @ MU, a past president of Coalition of Women Scholars, guest lecturer and award recipient) AND all that is planned in the coming year.

There will also be events through Marquette Clubs across the country-check the EVENTS Calendar for your area to see what's up and when.  While most of the events will be in Milwaukee, you can still feel part of the festivities by participating in the Oral History Project, which is open to ALL "female pioneers" who attended or taught at Marquette!  Click here http://www.marquette.edu/women100/oral_history/.

I look forward to seeing and meeting you at some of the events...Remember, you don't have to attend, be an alumna or teacher at MU to attend any events AND most are FREE.  From a Mother Theresa statue dedication to a women entrepreneur dinner to a play, "Censored on Final Approach", being performed at the Helfaer Theater and written by Phylis Ravel....there sure is something for everyone!

***Censored on Final Approach is about WW2 Women Airforce Service Pilots or WASPS!***

I'm really proud to have attended Marquette, not only for the great education I received there (I have my Bachelor of Science from there) but the sense of service and giving back that was instilled in us through the tradition and philosophy of the school.  I encourage all of you to check out the Centennial Celebration of Women @ MU website to see the history, full listing of events and see how you can be part of the NEXT 100 years of women @ Marquette!

    Remember....make a difference in someone's life today!
