Ms. Lena Horne, a lady and her music!  The African American Biography Series is thrilled to bring to you tonight the RICH biography of Ms. Lena Horne.  She was born Lena Mary Calhoun Horne in 1917 in Brooklyn, N.Y.  She passed to her very own Cabin in The Sky in 2010.  She was an African American singer, actress, civil rights activist and dancer.  The purpose of The African American Biography Series of 2013 is to document Black History on Internet radio, intelligent radio. Most of the information for tonight's segment comes from Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia.  You are listening to Blogtalkradio.  I'm your host Laura Gall and the name of my show is "You Talk Too Much". "You Talk Too Much" is a featured show in the Blogtalkradio line up of shows. Ms. Lena Horne is reported to be descended from the John C. Calhoun family.  Both sides of her family were a mixture of European American, Native American and African-American descent and they belonged to the upper stratum of middle-class, well-educated people.  Lena Horne is known for her films "Cabin In The Sky" and "Stormy Weather".  After being Blacklisted as a Hollywood Actress due to her political views during the 1950s, she became successful as a performer and entertainer.  Her 1980s Broadway show, Lena Horne:  The Lady and Her Music ran for more than 300 performances.  She continued to record, perform, and act well into the 1990s.  Young people know of her as the Good Witch in the children's classic The Wiz.  Most senior adults remember her from the many Variety shows she performed on during the 1950s & 1960s.  So tonight, we again put Ms. Lena Horne into the spotlight on internet radio, Blogtalkradio.  My call in number is 1-714-242-5273.  Please enjoy the show.  Thank you for listening.
