Dominic is author of the novels Nickel Fare and The Shriek and the Rattle of Trains. Nickel Fare, set in New York City during the 1970s is a coming of age novel with a gay theme. That is not the same as a coming out novel, as the young protagonist is openly gay, just too immature to manage his life properly. The Shriek and the Rattle of Trains, on the other hand, is set in Romania in the 1990s among ex-pat English teachers. This is an author with a restless soul, always in search of new cultural realities to immerse himself in, and his writings reflect that. Over his lifetime he has spent 14 years in Europe, living in such places as Berlin, Bucharest, Trieste and Paris. He feels that his experience as a native New Yorker trained him well to fit in, no matter what the unfamiliar setting. However, it is as a New Yorker that he always returns to this city for further inspiration. He presently lives on Staten Island, just above the harbor, where he is working on playwriting and on refining a series of memoir vignettes to be collected for publication. For him, writing is a slow process because every story has to be weighed and savored, forgotten, remembered and reread before it is ready to be told to another. For this reason, he always has, like the apocryphal unemployed film director,  “several projects in various stages of development.”   00:37:00MadeMark MedianoAuthors,Dominic Ambrose,Books,Interviews,LGBTJoin co-hosts Mark McNease and Rick Rose as we welcome author Dominic Ambrose to the show.
