In life, it’s easy to get on the wrong path or get sidetracked, or even get run off the road. Maybe you reluctantly agreed to follow in your father’s footsteps and become a doctor, or you had dreams of being a writer until an English teacher scoffed at your talents. And now here you are, eager for new challenges or revisiting old ones, yet you find yourself stalled with excuses. “Can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” “I’m too old to start over.” “It’s too late.” “Oh, I could never do that.” “I’ve been doing this for so long, why quit now?”

Love Your Path guest, Dr. Nancy Irwin, is author of You-Turn: Changing Direction in Midlife. She says midlife is the time to turn things around. A U-turn is when a vehicle goes 180 degrees into the opposite direction of its previous path. Likewise, a you-turn is a complete reversal in opinion, action or policy. When you embrace a you-turn into your life, you set in motion a self-fulfilling prophecy of empowerment and possibilities.

Dr. Nancy is a pre-licensed psychologist and clinical therapeutic hypnotist who works in private practice in West Los Angeles. She leads group therapy sessions for sex offenders and is also a busy public speaker. She’s been quoted extensively in Cosmopolitan, Redbook, Women’s World, and others, and is a frequent media expert on numerous radio and TV shows, including CNBC, CNN, Fox, ANDERSON, The Rachel Maddow Show, The Greg Behrendt Show, The Mitch Albom Show, and now, The Love Your Path Show.
