Cheryl Brown-Avery began writing poetry during the later 1960’s and later developed her talents into writing and illustrating children’s books and has always been passionate about creative writing and poetry for many years.  Receiving world media recognition for writing a poem entitled Memories of Innocent Children, written in memory of 10 Plymouth High School band students who were killed in an automobile accident in Plymouth, North Carolina.  

Brown-Avery was interviewed by WRAL TV 5 personality Betsy Sikes as well as national media coverage from the NBC Nightly News. Her first book was Summers to Remember, which described her life story growing up in the summers on her grandparent’s farm in Kittrell, North Carolina. Her first publication was a major success and Brown-Avery was interviewed by Ms. Gayle Heard, Talk Show Host of FOXY 107/104, and The Tom Joyner Morning Show and was also invited to the Tony Danza Show, New York and received recognition from Mr. Danza for her previous book Summers to Remember Parade.
