I am a lover of life and I want to be here for the long run. I talk about going green, eating right, exercise, having a healthy family, etc.

You Get Out What You Put In

I’ve been thinking about eating. I have changed the way I eat by consuming smaller portions and trying to eat more vegetables. The latter part I am still working on. Another way I am trying to change is the quality of food I eat. I try to buy organic produce, even though it is pricier and Gary doesn’t believe it’s worth it. I try to explain to him that we need to consider what we are putting into our child’s body, not only our own. Since she is eating table food now, whatever we eat, she eats. He needs a bit more convincing but I am hoping he sees the light soon.

In the meantime, I continue to buy organic fruits - such as peaches and bananas. I am also purchasing organic vegetable or soy broth (almost no sodium). I read the labels on EVERYTHING I purchase and if there is something that I have never heard of in the ingredients, I don’t buy it.

Trader Joe’s has become a good friend of mine because not only do they have such terrific products, they are a whole lot cheaper than Whole Foods…and a lot closer too. Right now we love their Nature’s Path Organic Heritage cereal. It’s made with organic wheat flour, bran, whole oats, barley flour, millet, quinoa, sea salt and honey. I love it when a product has all great ingredients that I can identify. And it’s tasty, with a great crunch.

Jason Natural Cosmetics - Fragrance Free Daily Shampoo, 16 oz

As with food I am trying to be more aware of what I buy to put on my body and I am trying to be as natural as possible without putting us in the poor house. I have found Jason, a brand of fragrance free, natural and organic cosmetic products. Since I have such a strong allergic reaction to fragrance, this brand has been a godsend to me. I am currently using their shampoo and conditioner and my scalp is no feeling so dry and the dandruff is practically gone. And I don’t get out of the shower smelling like some unnatural fruit salad or spruced up garden.

The point of this post is to convince some of you that it is not all about losing weight and exercising. They quality of the products we use is very important. Organic products are not exposed to the harsh intesticides and pesticides and other “unnatural” chemicals that is used on everyday products. Do you really want to subject your body to such things, be it in the food you ingest, or the soap you wash your hands with? Think about the potential for negative long term effects to your health and try to make changes. Even if it’s just small ones.
