Left alone to her own devices of trying to find the truth of what happened to cause her brain injury during surgery, Lori Finnila recounts what she can remember. While trying to find the answers from the medical community, she is encountered with needing to make a promise- not to sue anyone for malpractice first. With her not only searching for the truths, she is having to go it alone due to the surgery turning her into someone completely unlike the person she use to be, Lori becomes a victim of domestic abuse as others take advantage of her disability... This is a true poinant story of one person's struggles to overcome the odds of the devestation a severe brain injury can leave behind. Lori, in my opinion has been very blessed by our good Lord up above, and has become a shining example of a miracle, for all to see.

Us women stuck it out again with the technical difficulties meaning we had to use internet explorer for our web browser to use the umute feature apparently. This worked well but we did not get this info. until about 16 minutes into the show. But... we are proficient now with this radio system and will continue to bring you very warm and informative shows. So please stay with us.

Lori, Thank you for sharing your story with my listeners. I admire your strength and courage to no longer be the victim in a terrible situation. During my workshops at homeless shelters for young women and their children, I remind them they are spiritual beings always connected to God. Shift your awareness to being the observer rather than a victim of circumstance. I love this quote from Dr. Wayne Dyer…“Every meeting in our lives is in some way orchestrated by a divine force and the stranger to whom we are drawn have something to teach us.” Dr. Dyer believes there is a Spiritual solution to every problem and we must first look within to discover what the answer is. Deepak believes there are no problems, and that problems are created in the mind on a subconscious level. God bless you. Tiffany Dejon

Greetings, Just stopped by to visit briefly and to invite you to come visit with us every other Sunday morning at 11am EST for a most interesting discussion. We are currently discussing the world's oldest indigenous people called the Washitaw. Most people don't know that most African Americans in this country are not descendants of slaves. Their ancestors were here way before Columbus so-called "discovered" America. This land is more properly called Washitaw de Dugdahmoundyah. Learn more at www.EmpireWashitaw.org Peace.

Lori Finnila

Lori Finnila is a domestic violence survivor who has written and published two books about domestic violence and has finished another title "The Virtuous Woman" about domestic violence as well trying to bring attention to it. Lori pulled herself out from this by herself after running from domestic violence for years and suffering a permanent brain injury due to this. Her personal interviews are at http://lorifinnila.webs.com/lorisinterviews.htm Her first 15 min. interview for "My Brain Injury" is at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/book-that-author.

Show Notes

Come spend an hour with Lori Finnila and her co-host Natalie in a discussion of women's day to day challenges along with social issues important to us. Just sit back and relax and grab a cup of coffee or tea and listen in or call in to our happy, and our sad moments, our accomplishments, and our stories that we will all share together. Want to mention: We are always there for the abused first. We need to take care of our women. If we don't no one else will. This show was designed with the unity of women in mind to be there for one another. At any time if there is a woman in need we are here for them. We will take a call during the show or an email anytime at lorifinnila@gmail.com. We have a google groups for any announcements that your welcome to join at http://groups.google.com/group/women-empowerment-hour-w-lori-and-nat and email contact there is women-empowerment-hour-w-lori-and-nat@googlegroups.com. We also have show calendar with shows all the way through until January 26, 2010. We will be updating and adding regularly at http://lorifinnila.webs.com/apps/calendar/. If you are interested in being on the show please let us know. This show is to help stop the fragile state of women feeling so alone and possibly ending up in an abuse situation being mental or physical by showing we are all here for each other. We are always looking for new guests and new topic suggestions. Please feel free to contact us. My books are up here often. I am a survivor and I think I speak louder with a picture that I have accomplished myself even through everything. I feel that the show will be taken more seriously and show that Nat and I are serious about our work and our show. What are the prejudices of homelessness? What are the stereotypes of homelessness? The drug addicted and mentally ill persons and our veterans? We would like to give an hour to opening up on these stereotypes and trying to see if there is another description of these people out there. Maybe someone closer to you and I. We will have Tiffany Dejon here of the "Tiffany Dejon Show" here on Blog Talk who will be bringing a special guest with a rags to riches story of her success being homeless. Brain Injuries

Brain Injuries. How many of us have had minor brain injuries that have gone undiagnosed or improperly diagnosed? How many stigmas are out there once we mention a problem with our brains and how many times have the doctors overlooked our cries to our pains in general? We are women and it is in our minds. This is a topic we would like to discuss. We will be having 2 guests here for this topic, Deb, a friend of Nat and mine with a brain injury, and also Kim Chaisson Shields will be with us interviewing us with questions on this topic. Please come join us.

My Published Books and Projects Still Working On.

    To All My Fathers
To All My Fathers is my life being streamed into a story while running from my abuser of 13 years and still running at times.  A naive girl constantly searching for hope in life along with love and happiness in a preferred fairy tale atmosphere which she can see none other than.

Due to the graphic nature the book depicts the violence that happens to me at times in a somewhat fictional form.

    My Brain Injury
I received the first initial brain injury in 1990. Then followed by domestic violence and a coma which led me to a permanent brain injury.

There were many misconceptions of my injury and how I received it so I wanted to clear this up.

I talk about how my life changed and the injustice of it. My treatment from others and how I was discriminated against and how I had to try and raise my son like this without losing him. Also how I deal with my injury everyday and the deficits and how it left me in complete isolation. But how I found my inner soul and my aspirations again from this. I was now past it after putting it down on paper and ready to move on with my next project.

    The Virtuous Woman
I'm working on this book.  This is another domestic violence story yet this woman get's smart at the end.  It is a more to true rendition of everyday lives of us women who may not portray as the perfect woman to some making mistakes as we all do and finding our ways and ourselves in the end.  Our troubles are not perfectly defined as one might wish so that others may not find or see our troubles in a manner conclusive to acceptance.

Both published books above are published through PublishAmerica.com for requests of any kind.  They are available from the publisher at the lowest price, http://www.publishamerica.net/product85192.html  and http://www.publishamerica.net/product27698.html  They are also available online or for order at Barnes and Noble and Amazon(Borders) in person).

Wonderful but a little late into the show on Autism. Worth waiting into.

We will be doing another show for Autism.  I would to thank Cathy and Sandra for participating with this show. Us women stuck it out again with the technical difficulties meaning we had to use internet explorer for our web browser to use the umute feature apparently. This worked well but we did not get this info. until about 16 minutes into the show. I had done a test in firefox and it worked fine.  Last week was a site wide issue not due to us.  But... we are proficient now with this radio system and will continue to bring you very warm and informative shows. So please stay with us.

  • Original Air Date:

    Autism

We would like to dedicate this show to the misunderstandings of autism. The diagnosis, the treatment, how society views autism and we would like to hear from real moms dealing with these situations. We will have a guest Cathy Clark who has a son borderline diagnosed with autism and she will be bringing a special guest and friend Sandra Osborne. Sandra is a Community Psychologist with a graduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and a Federation trained Special Education Advocate from Central Massachusetts. Sandra designs community programs involving social skills and safety trainings targeting students with disabilities. She is the parent of a child with autism. They both will talk of their day to day experiences dealing with autism and their knowledge of autism so we can better understand.

    Technical Difficulties on Today's Show

I'm sorry there were technical difficulties during this show. The listeners could not get through and had to send their comments in through instead because the callers could not be opened up into the show due to this. There were no green lights to be clicked to bring them in. There was a flashing message before and during the show on my switchboard stating that the site was experiencing technical difficulties. I'm very greatful that blogtalk radio was still able to save the show on a player.

How Much Should We Give For Our Kids?

When do we say no to our children and that enough is enough? We are taught, trained, or instinctively born with always put our children first. When is it our time to say no and think about ourselves. If a child hits us, especially our child, is this also an instinctive time to be there as a parent or should our respective inner side of ourselves kick in at that time? This is a topic we want to discuss. How far are we expected to go as parents?
