Winger is one of those bands that people tend to either love or hate. The group has earned a large, loyal following over several decades, but has always endured rough treatment from critics and the media at large. Premised on top-notch musicianship couched in commercial rock songs, Winger tends to be difficult to categorize and as a result, can be hard to market. The band has had mostly straight AOR rock songs and ballads as hits, but its albums encompass a wider range of more ambitious influences. At the center of it all is leader Kip Winger, whose good looks hide a serious musician with a passion for classical composition.
