The natural hair/loc lifestyle is a growing one. Everyday more women are deciding to embrace their natural texture and give up the "creamy crack" and more men are deciding to stop running to their barbers every 2 weeks. Though there are more and more people chosing to lock their hair, the loc lifestyle has changed drastically. Growing locs was once about the lifestyle and culture, but now its become commercialized, it's about style and fashion, using popular products, and most importantly a quick way to make money for some. The word "health" does not come to mind when most folks think about locs, which is unfortunate because the health of your hair is the most important part of your Loc journey, and that health starts from the scalp. The hair on your head ONLY grows from one place, YOUR SCALP. If your scalp is unhealthy, damaged, clogged with products, dried out from using dryers, then the chances of your locs being unhealthy is great. We are obsessed with techniques, styles, products, neatness, etc, while or scalps are being ignored. I say this to all my clients, "your hair is like a plant. If you don't take care of the soil, your plant will die". Take care of your scalp so you can grow a beautiful and healthy crown.
