Transit use is up in North America. That’s good for the environment, good for our economies and good for human health. Yet, as more people rely on transit to move through their daily routines, transit organizations are struggling to keep up with the demand. Tight budgets, outdated transportation policies and lax government oversight result in service disruptions, delays in equipment repairs and maintenance, and staff reductions, all of which compromise the ability of these systems to provide safe and reliable service.

In this episode of PolicyTalk, host Cheryl D. Fields is joined by members of the Amalgamated Transit Union to discuss what policymakers, fleet operators and transit users can and must do to ensure the integrity of North American transit systems. The ATU represents bus and other transit workers throughout the United States and Canada.
