Vegan or Veggie?

With meat consistently in the media spotlight recently, and receiving a lot of negative press,  this week’s show will be examining the health benefits of switching to a more plant-based diet. As well as considering this from a nutritional standpoint, we will be chatting to both a vegetarian and a vegan about their reasons for making this choice, and how their health has benefited as a result.   

Mike (in his own words!) is “ a former red meat eating/pints and pints of beer drinking fat man who managed to cause myself to have Type 2 diabetes.  In order not to be stuck on pills, potions and injections for the rest of my life I became a high complex carbohydrate eating vegetarian i.e. wholefoods.  This diet plus a daily 12k on a cross-trainer has kept me at just under 12 stone for the past decade and, importantly, the diabetes completely in control.  Back in March 2003 I was 19 stone.”
