    in Self Help

Shhhh! Sad, Shocking and Sexy (re childhood abuse) with author Kelly Flook
"Shhhh! is a sad, shocking and sexy story about what happened to a child born into an upper-class, Southern farm family when she didn't 'act like a lady.' In 1940 her father married his maid - twenty-seven years his junior. He was a proud 'ole peacock. She was his young hen. Her mother lived to be the 'proper wife,' the 'proper mother.' They were to be 'ladies.' Mother was. Kelly's sister was. She wasn't.
Her book is for the countless and their families left casualties by their predators over some seventy years, from the 1930s through 1990s. This is an invitation for those who suffer to begin healing.

  • Stop Child Abuse Now (SCAN) - 1151

    in Self Help

Tonight's special guest is Michael Broussard from Philadelphia, a returning NAASCA family member. As a child abuse survivor, Michael has come up with a unique way to be of service and carry our message. NAASCA has committed to presenting his play, a one-man show "Ask a Sex Abuse Survivor," to a wider and ever-expanding audience through our web site and on our talk shows. The East Coast leg of the National Tour begins in early September and currently includes stops in Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Vermont... with more stops being added every day. "Once we finish the East Coast leg, I'll come home to refresh and regroup, then I'll head out to do either the Midwest or West Coast leg of the tour," says Michael. "Eventually we will cover the entire nation." He goes on, "We are relying on donations to help us reach as many survivors as possible all around the country." To make a donation in support of the tour click the "donate" link." During the play, which was first performed at the end of June, 2014, Michael tells the story of a childhood lost to abuse — and rediscovered decades later. Throughout the performance, audience members were encouraged to share their own experiences, ask questions and offer up comments. The play provides a unique opportunity for an open, interactive dialogue on the effects and causes of abuse and, as such, NAASCA will be devoted to helping the play be presented elsewhere. We'll sponsor these events and list them on the NAASCA web site when they are scheduled, etc, too, as an ongoing project / service. We're delighted to count Michael among our NAASCA family members.
