  • CM Radio - Sept. 3, 2014 - Prairie Cat, Coyote, Shimmering Stars

    in Music

It's indie pop week for Canadian Musician Radio, and we're reaching from sea to sea for this one. From BC, we've got both Prairie Cat and Shimming Stars, and then from PEI, we've got Coyote. We'll speak with all three about their recent and upcoming releases and see where the similarities and differences lie as far as their approach to writing, performing, and building a career in music.
The brainchild of frontman and pricipal songwriter Cary Pratt, Prairie Cat is fresh off the release of Who Knows Where To Begin? The touring band features a few familiar faces from the west coast music community and we'll chat with Cary about his songs and how they come to life on the stage.
As for Shimmering Stars, they're even fresher off the release of their second and latest LP, Bedrooms of the Nation. The album integrates elements from across the pop, noise, punk, and experimental spectrums - The Pixies, Flipper, Yo La Tengo, Women, and Nirvana running head into The Beach Boys, Phil Spector, and 50s/60s AM radio.
Finally, the cats in Coyote have their first full-length dropping in the coming weeks, and in addition to the unique sound they've crafted, we'll speak about their adventures as a band thus far - which most recently included the theft and recovery of close to $10,000 worth of musical equipment.

  • Country Newcomer: Greg Michaels

    in Country Music

Growing up in small town MN was the basis for Greg's love of country music.  Eden Valley, a farm community of about 800 people and no stop lights, is where he got his first guitar and wrote his first country song. He grew up on the edge of a main road, railroad track, and a corn field. It's a place where he learned to hunt, fish, play sports, and appreciate  music  of  many genres. It's where he learned about honesty, family, friendship, and team work. All of which  come into play in the songs he writes, in his live show and on a daily basis. If he's not out playing or writing country songs, he's in the woods with a bow, on a lake fishing bass, cruising dirt roads in his truck with his buddies, or out  listening to area classic country bands.
Influenced by the vinyl record sounds from his father's collection of country greats such as Haggard, Strait, and Cash...Greg found that a strong song and a strong vocal is key to a good career. He was later influenced by the  sounds and   live shows of more modern day artists like Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn,  Tim McGraw, etc.  and also the 90's country scene. He has worked hard over the years to develop his skills as a country performer and songwriter. He has been fortunate to have played in the company of many talented MN musicians, and  opening shows for talented National acts such as  Jamey Johnson, Little Texas, Emerson Drive, Colt Ford, and Trent Willmon.

  • LOTL The Comfort Zone Presents Carmen Lundy, debuts new album' Soul To Soul'

    in Music

NEW CD FROM VOCALIST CARMEN LUNDY, ‘SOUL TO SOUL,’ SET FOR RELEASE SEPTEMBER 23
Carmen Lundy began working on “Soul To Soul” well over a year ago in a very hands-on manner – literally composing, co-composing and arranging eleven of the thirteen tracks and then playing and recording all the instruments - including bass, drums, piano, guitar and percussion - in her home studio to get a working “feel” for how the music might sound. She then “sweetened” the songs by adding string sounds and other software instruments to elaborate and experiment with the aural mood of each track, interpreting and identifying with each track’s sound individually as well as part of the overall song sequence.  On the final CD, Lundy plays guitar on all tracks, piano and Rhodes on many tracks, and drums on two.   “I wrote the music with specific players in mind for each respective instrument,” says Lundy.  “My producer and label co-owner Elisabeth Oei encouraged me to reach out to those musicians whose music I have loved and have been inspired by; some of whom I had worked with but never recorded with. I consider these artists specialists on their instruments.  These are players who bring a distinctive sound to everything they play andadd another layer of individuality to my original music.” Press from Official Carmen Lundy website
