    in Music

Laura Sullivan is a GRAMMY® winning composer and recording artist. Her original music has been included in the score of two Emmy winning documentaries, as well as in many popular television programs and advertisements for Fortune 500 companies.
Laura Sullivan's release Love's River won a GRAMMY® for BEST NEW AGE ALBUM in the 56th GRAMMY® awards which aired on CBS on January 26, 2014.
GRAMMY® winning composer, Laura Sullivan, called out to the world to join her in a powerful plan to make a music video. Her request was simple.  Take a video of yourself singing her song “900 Voices” and send it to her.  The response was overwhelming.
938 people from Australia, Brazil, Israel, Croatia, Korea, Kenya, India, and many other countries, participated by making videos on their cell phones and sending them to Laura.
The result is epic.  27 languages included in one song and video about love and unity.  The video has been released on April 9, 2015 and is titled “900 Voices.”
50% of the music proceeds of “900 Voices” are going towards the national nonprofit Little Kids Rock.  This organization partners with economically disadvantaged school districts to run music programs.  To date they have served more than 325,000 children in 13 states.

BLACK people  who served time for Crime, still paying the price Today when freed
There will never be a revolutionary movement in this country that doesn’t fully unleash and give expression to the sometimes openly expressed, sometimes expressed in partial ways, sometimes expressed in wrong ways, but deeply, deeply felt desire to be rid of these long centuries of oppression [of Black people]. There’s never gonna be a revolution in this country, and there never should be, that doesn’t make that one key foundation of what it’s all about. Bob Avakian, Chairman of the  Revolutionary Communist Party, USA,
A growing number of states are pushing inmates out of prison in early release programs designed to reduce overcrowding and save money. But faced with a tight job market and few employers willing to hire someone with a criminal record, many former inmates are likely to end up right back behind bars.
Last month, California began releasing prisoners deemed at low risk for re-offending. Colorado, Oregon, Kentucky and Connecticut, all wracked with budgetary issues, have instituted similar moves as a way to cut costs, while others, including Michigan and Mississippi, are considering similar initiatives.

  • Interview with Big Tobacco and The Pickers as well as Jess Reimer

    in Music

On this episode of the In The Country, my guests are...
BIG TOBACCO & THE PICKERS  New Album "The King Is Gone" will be released May 12, 2015.
Since 2008, Big Tobacco & the Pickers have been bringing their unique brand of traditional country to bar rooms, taverns, halls and festivals around Ontario. Their ongoing monthly residency at Toronto roots institution The Cameron House has gained them a loyal following of country music fans. Regular appearances at legendary rooms like The Dakota Tavern and The Cadillac Lounge have helped develop their gritty live show into what it is today - a glimpse back at the golden age of country music. Their renditions of the classics, along with traditional sounding original material, will make you and your friends want to dance all night & drink too much. From the rich tones of the pedal steel, to the hot licks of the Fender Telecaster, Big Tobacco and the Pickers deliver a new brand of country music, true to old school tradition.
    JESS REIMER
There is no denying that an artist is a reflection of their environment, and the harsh beauty of rural Manitoba is at the heart of Jess Reimer’s work. She has been one of the Winnipeg roots music scene’s best-kept secrets for several years, but with her latest album, The Nightjar and The Garden, Jess is set to have the wider world embrace her. As Jess explains about one of the album’s most affecting songs Whippoorwill. “A nightjar is a family of birds the whippoorwill belongs to. The whippoorwill is known as an omen of death or hardship and sings at dusk. It is supposed to steal souls before they have a chance to move on to the afterlife. I like to believe that’s why Hank Williams and other country artists sang about it.”

  • LOTL The Comfort Zone Presents Van Hunt. New CD' The Fun Rises, TheFun Sets

    in Music

Van Hunt, the Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer has announced his fifth studio album The Fun Rises, TheFun Sets to be released May 5th via Nashville-based Thirty Tigers and Hunt's own label godless-hotspot. Like its predecessor - 2011's What Were You Hoping For?, which The New York Times hailed as "ambitious and exciting" - The Fun Rises, The FunSets is enticingly adventurous. Of the album Van Hunt states: ""The drive to create something new and different is what keeps me excited and engaged as an artist. It's the thrill of appearing with The Afghan Whigs at Coachella and then performing at a gospel quartet music special all in the same week. The excitement is in constantly evolving as an artist. It's how I got from my first album,Van Hunt (alternative soul, electro-funk music influenced by Prince and The Ohio Players), to my last album What Were You Hoping For?, which was Bowie-influenced, progressive rock and soul." Full of African rhythms, blues and funk, the new album is full of contemporary components often found in the music of St. Vincent, James Blake, Dev Hynes and FKA Twigs. "It is the history of Black- American music filtered through modern technology," explains Hunt.    Today you can hear the first single off the album "Vega (stripes on)," a percolating, lusty track that simmers with jangly Howlin' Wolf-style guitars closed with a short rhyme reminiscent of early Raekwon. Pre-order the album now and check out the track above.

  • "C.B.R" Interview with Ms. Fystee

    in Hip Hop Music

Tonight on "Championship Battle Rap" we'll be kicking it with an up & coming MC by the name of Ms. Fystee, fresh from the streets of Philly. The truth behind the story of how we came across Ms. Fystee is as follows: Ms. Fystee sent us a friend request on our C.B.R Facebook Page and we saw that she was an artist so we checked her page to see if she had some music posted so we could hear her music and once we heard one of her tracks, we immediately reached out and extended her an invite to the show. It's that simple! This is one talented artist but don't just take our word for it, tune in to the show and check for yourself.

They say the proof is in the pudding, and Ms. Fystee bought just that for us. That's right she sent us 2 tracks that we'll be playing for all the listeners so you can determine for yourselves if she's dope or a joke, but trust when we say you won't be disappointed.
