A nine-piece tour de force that combines the polish of top 40 with the smooth feeling of 60’s soul and the raw groove of 70’s funk, Phat Phunktion is today one of the most talked about bands in the Midwest. Their self-produced CDs have sold in the thousands, and their live shows sell-out virtually everywhere they perform. In their hometown of Madison, WI, they have been known to attract crowds of upwards of 5,000 people. Phat Phunktion has shared the stage with musical legends The Temptations, Tower of Power, WAR, Cameo, Morris Day and the Time, The Original “P” (featuring original members of Parliament), The Average White Band, Chick Corea, Taj Mahal, Rick James, Clyde Stubblefield, The Brothers Johnson, Soulive, Willy Porter, and Kool and the Gang. Their dynamic stage show and incredible musicianship have initiated thousands of faithful “Phatheads,” who are now spreading the word.     Join us this week as we welcome Americana music singer songwriter, Steve McCormick. Raised in the Midwest, his interest in roots music led to a bachelor’s degree in American Studies from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, where he wrote his senior thesis on American Music. In the years that followed McCormick honed his recording skills by working with tube microphone guru Steve McKinstry and his Salmagundi Studios. Shortly thereafter, McCormick’s songwriting led to a publishing deal with Nashville based Wrensong. McCormick later left the midwest for Los Angeles, where he now resides and is a studio owner, producer, performer, session player, composer/songwriter and microphone builder. As a session player, McCormick’s playing has been heard in dozens of national TV commercials including McDonalds, Nike, Nissan, Chevron, Coors, SBC, Long John Silver and Cialis. He also played guitar on the theme song for the Warner Brothers hit "Felicity". His on-screen debut occurred in the Michael Keaton movie “Jack Frost”, playing guitar in the Shiverfest scene. Though his playing skills are highly sought after, his songwriting and recordings have set him apart as a voice in music today. His songs have been alongside the Counting Crows, Peter Gabriel, and The Pretenders in the hit NBC show “Homicide”. Steve will be releasing a new EP in May 2017. At age 16 Whitney took on the stage herself with her own music and opened for the Country Duo Maddie & Tae. Since then she has opened for YouTube sensation Andie Case with a sold out show in Salt Lake City, Utah. She has been featured on several Utah Radio Stations for being one of Utah’s up-and-coming singers. Whitney recently released her new EP, self-titled “Whitney Lusk,” which is already getting national recognition for her song, “I Wanna Know,” which was used in the movie “A Light In The Woods,” produced by K. Vernon Castleton. Whitney’s original Song “Picasso” won her a trip to Nashville where she wrote with top industry singer-songwriters on Music Row and performed at the famous Bluebird Café.
