Former New York Knicks center Patrick Ewing has no beef with the NBA, but he does believe it takes a backseat to learning your ABCs. “When I was coming out of high school it wasn’t like it is now, where a lot of guys are going to a one-year college then directly onto the league. I did not know that I was going to be in the NBA until well into my college career,” the Basketball Hall of Famer tells The Bottom Line Sports Show host Gerald Brown. I had the opportunity to leave college early, after my junior year, like lot of the guys—Charles Barkley, Michael Jordan. But my mother had passed away and I’d promised her that I’d finish. So I stayed and graduated. My college experience was one of the best experiences in my life. I wouldn’t change that for anything.”
