Lisa Harp of the Harp institute and

discusses the
IEP (Individualized Education Program)
.
There is a great deal of controversy over the IEP. This segments into two main categories. Those with extreme special needs and those who are marginal in their IEP needs.
For those cases that are definitely in need of an IEP the task is to make sure that the IEP fits their needs. Is the student getting the education they have the right to or are they possibly being warehoused. Education in the IEP process is the key here.
For those students who may have a slight learning disability this is a much different decision. Should an IEP be signed at all. School districts get more funding if more students are on the IEP so it is possible that guidance is swayed in the direction of the IEP. But long term this can turn out to be a bad decision. Again it comes down to the parents being educated about the IEP process. In the end it is the parents decision. If you are on the call and use twitter please use the twitter hashtag #iep
