Join Holly Riddel, Doug Upchurch, and their special guest Teo Bishop, writer of the blog Bishop in the Grove, as they talk about the power of the written and sung word as well as the process of coming out spiritually. You might have known Teo as Doug did through his stage name, Matt Morris. Matt is a well known singer songwriter that in addition to his three albums "UnSpoken," "Backstage at Bonnaroo and Other Acoustic Performances," and "When Everything Breaks Open," Matt has written songs and collaborated with some well known pop and R&B artists including Kelly Clarkson, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Mary J. Blige, and Sara McLachlan. Matt started the blog Bishop in the Grove under the pseudonym Teo Bishop as a way to express his spiritual journey separately from his music career. This past year, Matt came out as Teo and formally changed his name to Teo Bishop and now uses Matt Morris as his stage name.
Teo sees his writing as a form of ministry, as much a way of reaching out as reaching in. He writes to be heard, but also to allow others to express their voices, their experiences, their knowledge of the divine. While on a druidic path himself, Teo honors all traditions, including his own upbringing in the Episopal church. He believes that it is only through a synthesis of lived experience that a true knowledge of spirituality may evolve. His work centers on the meaning and enactment of ritual in personal and public ceremony, on the place of creativity and personal expression in Pagan traditions, and on the integration of mind with heart. Here's a video of Teo singing "Offering in the Morning".
