The upgrade will not improve the laptop battery power under the premise of enhancing system performance. OLPC team, said, OLPC's design has not changed, but the new VIA processors will increase its handling capacity. VIA will provide a 3D acceleration with the engine and high-definition video decoder chipset.

OLPC staff, wrote in a statement, "our tireless efforts to make the price of OLPC maintain a relatively low level, while also update the hardware configuration to apply the latest scientific and technological achievements."

In January, AMD says it plans to phase out their aging low-power Geode chips, making the chip in the XO laptop computer, the prospect has become less clear.

The upgrade also includes increased memory and hard drive 398876-001 laptop batterycapacity. Upgraded version of the XO laptop will be equipped with 1GB memory and a 4GB-8GB of storage space. And the existing XO laptop hard drive with only 256MB of memory and 1G.

Upgraded version of the XO laptop will begin testing in August, while the production date has not disclosed.
