    lifestyle30 presents.....Money, Power, & Respect - April 5

On this week's show, and Money, Power & Respect segment, special guest Cheri Thomas and I discussed President Obama and his First 100 Days, his recent trip to Europe, Michelle Obama and the impact she's having on the World, the sudden incidence of increased gun violence in America and it's ties to the recession, the phenomenon of networking for the young professional and the groups popping up all over the country, and we will introduce the "Sunday Announcements" segment, where we will review upcoming events in a city near you.

Money, Power, & Respect - HOT TOPICS:
Michelle Obama and her debut on the world stage and some of the hatred being thrown her way.
We examined the world's fascination with Michelle Obama, some positive attention and  some negative.

    Articles cited were:

Europe Melts For Michelle - Politico.com

    http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0409/20897.html

    excerpt from the article:
Of course, the Europeans were eager to gush over a First Couple not named Bush. In fact, if one of the White House’s goals for this trip is repair the U.S. reputation abroad after the Bush era, Michelle was an equal partner in the effort, in ways different from her husband.

Barack Obama wins them over with a personal style and an embrace of internationalism that seems almost European. Michelle Obama is the approachable one, fashionable yet down-to-earth, and effusive (rubbing the Queen’s back!) in an endearing way.

Radio Show Host, Tammy Bruce, Calls Michelle Obama Trash - Huffingtonpost.com (March 23, 2009)
    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/03/23/tammy-bruce-calls-the-oba_n_178109.html

    excerpt from the article:

Tammy Bruce, guest host for Laura Ingram's radio show, had some harsh words for First Lady Michelle Obama.

Discussing the first lady's visit to a Washington D.C. classroom last week, Bruce incredulously recalled Obama's story about wanting to get A's in school and called out her use of a "weird, fake accent."

"That's what he's married to," Bruce said. "...You know what we've got? We've got trash in the White House. Trash is a thing that is colorblind, it can cross all eco-socionomic...categories. You can work on Wall Street, or you can work at the Wal-Mart. Trash, are people who use other people to get things, who patronize others, who consider you bitter and clingy..."

Gun violence in America and the recession:
Here are just a few cities where gun violence has taken the lives of families and children in the last few weeks.

Young Professionals Movement: How Social and Business Networking is affecting how we make connections.
I recently became involved with a group called Cleveland Young & Powerful which is a larger organization that started off as young and powerful for Obama but has since broken off into individual cities whose goal is to encourage 21-40 age group to participate civically, politically, and participate in social activities in their cities.  But Young and Powerful is just one of the many groups popping up all over the country that attract what is now known as the young and professional group in America.  These groups seem to be driven by a desire to stay focused on career goals, very involved in politics and community, and very interested in networking with other like individuals.  Networking has taken on a new meaning and a new look. Let's examine this definition.

According to the book, Professional Networking for Dummies by Donna Fisher, the Definition of Networking is:  Every time someone gives you a recommendation, suggestion, or idea about something that's of interest to you or value to you, that's networking, and every time you do the same for them in return, that's also networking.

She goes on to say that, networking is the passing along of information from one person to another for the purpose of being of value and service.

In addition, networking also involves creating opportunities through meeting people, making contacts, and building strong relationships.  These relationships grow and deepen over time, leading to other contacts, relationships, and opportunities.

Lastly, networking honors the natural desire of humans to connect with and develop camraderie with others.
