    Immigration Waivers

    in Legal

In the immigration world, there are numerous waivers that some individuals may need to avail themselves to. Form I-601 is used to apply for a multitude of waivers. For example, if a person came to the US on a B-1/B-2 Visa and #overstays the visa between 181 to 365 days, that person will be barred from entering the US for a period of up to three (3) years. If that same person #overstays the visa for more than 366 days, that person is barred for 10 years. The Form I-601 waiver can be used to reduce that bar to sometimes months. Form I-601 is also used to forgive some petty crimes, some fraud & misrepresentation, and a onetime use of 30 grams or less of marijuana. If an intending spouse came to the US without being inspected or paroled and that spouse is the beneficiary of an immigrant visa, that spouse may avail him/herself of a Form I-601A waiver. That waiver gets approved before the beneficiary spouse has to travel to an American Consulate to be interviewed and collect the green card. Form I-212 is used when a person gets deported. Form I-612 is used when there is a residency requirement.

Stepping in 'Bull' - trial consultants discuss/correct this ridiculous show, E1

    in Legal

CBS launches a new show from the apparently forgetful mind of Dr. Phil, that pretends to be about trial consultants. Fiction is great; outright falsehood is not. And in a year in which the American public is being told (correctly, incorrectly, or partially true) that its institutions are rigged - government, financial markets, the media, elections - it is harmful that the public is now also being told that its justice system is rigged. Rigged by a smarmy, cocky, godlike consultant who single-handedly somehow has the power to empanel any jury he wants to achieve any outcome he wants, flouting all laws of procedure, not getting the attorneys who employ him disbarred and on and on. Look, this isn't like complaining, "That TV surgeon used a clamp instead of forceps," or a TV mechanic tightening the lugs on a wheel in the wrong order. While annoying, those are errors, not whole-cloth falsehoods that give a dangerously false picture of the job.
Join two accomplished trial consultants, Rich Matthews (Juryology) and Sonia Chopra (ChopraKoonan) as they discuss this show. There might be a little swearing.
