    President of the local NAACP to be a guest

    I had the chance to talk with Racine's local NAACP President today.

    He kindly agreed to give me an interview. So now that I have him agreeing to do an interview, the next step is figuring out a time. He is a very busy man and very active in our community.

    Alderman Mike Shields w/ Corrine Owens I am looking forward to the chance to interview Alderman Mike Shields, President of the local chapter of the NAACP.

    In our brief discussion today he was telling me how excited he is to be the new president. He has many great things planned and we will be discussing them on the next show.

    Primarily our topic is going to be about just how segregated Racine was. Corrine Owens was a teacher in Mississippi but when she moved to Racine she was told that there was no need for black teachers. For several years she worked as a janitor at Gateway Technical College. With perseverance and with the help of the NAACP we was eventually able to teach and even became a member of the Board of Directors of Gateway Technical College.

    I am looking forward to this interview.
