Today's Show: Baucus Health Care Bill and Burlington Township NJ School Children

Today's show was smoother this week. I did receive an e-mail from tech support at BTR about last week's difficulty in getting the BTR switchboard to function. They fixed the problem and were apologetic about the technical problems I had last week that made it so difficult to do the show well.

Today, we look at the Baucus bill and the impact it would have especially on senior citizens and the treatments they would receive if doctor's are penalized for being in the top 10% of doctors' per capita costs. In other words if, at the end of the year, a doctor's Medicare patients are healthy but their treatments cost the Medicare system more than 90 percent of other doctors' Medicare treatments, their doctor would be penalized 5 percent of his Medicare reimbursements at the end of the year. Ouch! Medicare reimbursements are already low so a doctor who is penalized will likely owe just as if he owed on his taxes.

Next up is the children in Burlington Township, NJ who were taught a song praising Barack Obama during last February's Black History Month. The video wasn't posted until this summer.

You'll find the video on my website at www.lauraechevarria.com

Be sure to join me next week!

    Very Frustrating

This morning's show was very difficult to do. First of all, I think I forgot to schedule one because I couldn't find it listed. So I had to do the show at 8:00 a.m. which was fine. However, the BTR switchboard page had some kind of error and would only load for maybe two or three seconds and the switch to an error page. I did the show anyway because I could still access the passwords and everything--the only problem was stopping the intro music. I couldn't so it played for the full three minutes.

This show may have to be retaped. I was awful.

White House Transparency and September 11th

Today's show focused on White House transparency and whether the Obama Administration's promise to make and keep things open is being fulfilled.

Also, a great new website has been launched. It's for conservative/Republican women and it's called American Maggie after Britain's Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher. American Maggie can be found at www.americanmaggie.com.

Last, where were you on September 11th? I don't think we will ever forget where we were or what we were doing when we heard the news. I was en route to work and turned around when I heard the radio report. When our office reopened, I drove past the Pentagon everyday and it was a horrific reminder that there are people who hate us simply because we are American. Driving past the Pentagon everyday also prompted me to say a prayer for the men and women who survived September 11th, those who helped them, those who died and the families of all.

  • Original Air Date:

    Obama Transparency; Remembering September 11th

Do you feel the White House has been fulfilling its promise of transparency or do you feel that the president has been transparent only on the things he wants to be transparent about? Also, we will remember September 11th and how we have changed because of it.

    Polemics and Politics

Today's show was much more difficult to do. I had both boys up and our oldest son (his autism is the more severe of the two) didn't really sleep last night. This is rare for us but commonly seen in children with autism. But this means that I didn't really sleep so today's show wasn't very smooth but I feel good that I was actually able to string sentences together

For those of you interested in commenting on the tone of today's political debates, my e-mail addresses are laura@lauraechevarria.com and laura@cultureandpoliticstoday.com.

Soon I will be opening up the phones for listeners to call and comment and I will also be bringing on guests to add to the discussion.

    Thanks for listening!
