Born in Havana, Cuba. Her paternal grandparents emigrated there from Galicia, in Spain.
She has four kids, three-fourths of them boys. Her youngest is the only girl. Berta lived in Miami, Pittsburgh, New York, Charlotte and Atlanta, in that order. She currently lives in Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to writing she still works in marketing.
