I was very relieved later she was spared the news that along the way I would become a shop janitor and backpacking drifter before this writing business ever came into play.  Applying the collage or cut-up technique to every facet of my life as possible and letting my subconscious fill in the concepts, I collect refuse of reality to exercise general daily awareness. At times, I feel this is why I do not dream, or at least cannot remember dreaming; spent on lucidity by the time the lights go out. I feel more reactive than creative. Elliot's, Pablo Picasso's and Banksy's quote would be all the description we may need of James Knowles's art, but then again, once we have met his art, the word genius seems insufficient to describe his art. An image made of many images, a kaleidoscope of visions. In his collages James Knowles takes the images from other artists, and he makes them his own, twisting them 180° of their original intention, until they say what he meant them to say. Born in Darlington SC. in 1979 and currently living in Cheraw SC. with his wife and their two children. He takes the time to cut and paste accumulating hundreds of tiny stories. Waiting for their moment to take their place on his works. A true melting pot of the imaginary. In his youth, from time to time, James Knowles abandoned art, but art never abandoned James Knowles. It was always there. Even in his most lethargic moments, it was there waiting for him to open the door again. Apart from the magnificent collages he's known for, James also paints and sculpts. Amazing amalgams of dream and nightmares. Again, a million different cells forming a new being. As an artist Dante makes his own study images of the pages. Close in spirit, but original in content his pages are made by him from the ground up. Even the parchment he draws upon is his own creation. We had a few technical problems at the start of the show that may be accounted to VOIP. Luckily he's also got a land line so he was able to call in after a few minutes of my improv. I enjoyed talking with him, and do find his work fascinating.
