Tonight I take a different bent and read two essays from Leon Trotsky. The Bankrupcy of Individual Terrorism and Why Marxists oppose Individual Terrorism. I am not a Marxist, nor do I support communism however I believe that Trotsky was correct in his criticism of individual terrorism and I believe there is much truth in what he says, especially when we relate it to today's obsession with lone gunman and suicide bombers, and terrorist actions around the world. The strength of any social and political movement is severely crippled by violent individual actions. The strength of a movement is in it's unified belief and committment to positive political and social change.
