Linear introduction of micro-power multi-function power management IC solution

Linear Electronics launched the world's micro-power multi-function Laptop Battery power management IC (PMIC) solution for LTC3554, the device for laptop-based lithium-ion / polymer battery applications. In an ultra-thin (0.55mm) 3mm x 3mm QFN package, LTC3554 integrates a linear PowerPath USB-compatible (PowerPathTM) manager, a standalone battery charger, two high efficiency synchronous buck regulator and button control. In all outputs are switched on, pin-selectable standby mode the battery drain current to only 10uA. LTC3554 is ideal for low-power portable equipment applications, including personal navigation devices (PND), media players and handheld medical and industrial equipment.
LTC3554 with automatic load prioritization capabilities of the power path management devices seamlessly manage the transition between multiple input sources to power to the load at the same time from a USB port or 5V AC adapter power supply up to 400mA battery charging current. Input current limit is pin-selectable and internal settings (without an external resistor). LTC3554 and up to 5.5V (the value of 7V absolute maximum transient for added robustness) is compatible with inputs. The device's "instant-on" work even when the battery fully discharge ensures system load Sony PCG-Z505 battery power. Autonomous operation simplifies design, without the need for an external microprocessor for charge termination. When the input current is limited or unavailable, the internal 240mΩ ideal diode for the load to provide a low loss power path. The device functions with the NTC in order to achieve temperature-qualified charging.

LTC3554's two integrated synchronous buck regulators feature 100% duty cycle, each able to provide 200mA output current with output voltage adjustable down to 0.8V. For flexibility, these two regulators can independently start and prohibited. Oscillator frequency and the corresponding conversion rates for a patent circuit is pin-selectable (1.125MHz or 2.25MHz), thus allowing the application circuit dynamically to balance efficiency and EMI performance. The high switching frequency also allows the use of a high degree of less than 1mm of tiny low cost capacitors and inductors. The internal low RDS (ON) switches enable efficiency as high as 93%, further maximizing battery run time. In addition, Burst Mode (Burst Mode ®) work to each regulator is only 25uA of quiescent current (shutdown <1uA) optimize light load efficiency. In addition, the two regulators are stable with ceramic Sony PCG-V505 battery output capacitors, achieving very low output voltage ripple. Button controller provides an integrated buck regulator to sort and enter the ultra-low current (<1uA) Hard Reset (Hard Reset) state channels, thereby extending battery run time.

    LTC3554 ultra-low-flat (0.55mm) 3mm x 3mm UTQFN-20 package are also available. For 1,000-piece quantities, is priced at 2.35 U.S. dollars each.
