    What to this holiday mean?

What it means to be an American

With Independence Day upcoming, I decided not to blog about whats going on in the world, but this topic:With America's holiday upcoming up, instead of talking about the current events of the day, or the traveling and retail sales that are going to happen...... I think that it is time to remember what this country is founded upon.

For those people that do not know, don’t care or are a patriot of this country and are proud to be here, you have to remember how we came into existence. Way back in the day, around 1763  (after the British decided that we should pay our fair share for keping the French out) the colonies of Great Britain decided to tax the snot out of everyone and the citizens got angry, really angry. The “taxation without representation” chant started. Yes, you had the Boston Tea Party, but it took a grassroots effort to make it work. After the colonies set up Congresses in their area.

After a few years we said “that's enough” and in 1774 the First Continental Congress was born basically telling the Birtish to get lost! A lot to things were going on over the next couple of years, however in early 1776 the bookCommon Sense by Thomas Paine was published and got everyone involved. On June 11th, 1776 the Second Continental Congress met and the Declaration of independence was being written and on June 2nd, it was passed! The United States was born, but there was a problem: there was a war in progerss. Yes you had general George Washington leading the charge, but you had help form behind the scenes. Benjamin Franklin over in France getting the necessary funds to make it happen while the world watched.

In the end, we won the war and the Great Experiment began. Many countries followed our lead with varying results. Yes we are self-centered, ego driven people here, but when our back is against the wall, this nation as a whole will not go down without fighting to the end.$0$0$0$0$0This holiday is not about eating food, fireworks or big retail sales: It is about what we were founded upon and what this country from a basic level stands for! Have a safe and wonderful holiday!
