Dr. Indech, while I respect your opinion, I have to disagree with you. I really feel, as Mr. Powell has put forward, that this is much more of a policy position and less of a technical position. A good commissioner should be a good manager and be able to rely on staff to sort the technical details, and upon staff's recommendations, make the best decision for both Georgia's producers and consumers. Medical Examiners who are forensic experts with an MD. Georgia is becoming more sophisticated; we must have experts in the PSC, as Commissioners, not only staff, who can technically go head-to-head with the power companies and natural gas suppliers on complex issues to get the best deal for all Georgians.

In response to "Silence Dogwood", in effect the voters ARE hiring the best qualified candidate, through the election process. My position is that this is not a strict policy position, but that the best candidate should have a solid technical background in the intracacies of the industries that are regulated. After watching the debate I have only one question: If this is, as Mr. Indech contends, a technical post, why are we even bothering holding an election for a technical position instead of hiring the best qualified candidate straightaway?
