    Followers of Jesus- biblestudy

    Follower - Luke 9:57-62 & John 10:3-5

    Follow- Greek word Akoloutheo- Means to to follow one who precedes, join him as his attendant, accompany him to join one as a disciple, become or be his disciple
    side with his party.

    What does it take to be a follower of Jesus? What does it mean to follow Jesus?
    What do you have to give up? What are you willing to sacrifice and are you willing to give it all up to follow Jesus? Who or what are you following today? Is it the preacher, teacher or pastor or are your really following Jesus? Have you given up your earthly citizenship to be a sojourner?

    Read the 2 passage below- KJV

    Luke 9
    9:57
    And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest.
    9:58
    And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
    9:59
    And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.
    9:60
    * Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
    9:61
    And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house.
    9:62
    And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back *, is fit for the kingdom of God.

    John 10
    10:3
    To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.

    And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

    And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. 

    Follow Me" - Matt 4:18-20

    And Jesus, walking by the sea of Galilee, saw two brethren, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers.

    And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

    And they straightway left their nets and followed him.
    Peter and Andrew immediately left their nets and followed. We must follow Jesus closely and find out His ways so we can become true followers. They became true disciples of Jesus. Now that we are followers of Jesus, we must accept no imitations. We must be all that He has called us to be.
    What does that mean to you? What are some of things that will change in your life when you become a follower of Jesus? How can we recognize imitations? 

    Following Jesus requires obedience, and authentic actions. We can become counterfeits by saying one thing and doing another. Exposure is sure to happen. Read Acts 5:1-10

    But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

    And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

    But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?
    5:4
    Whiles it remained, was it not thine own * ? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God.

    And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things.

    And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
    5:7
    And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in.
    5:8
    And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much.
    5:9
    Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out.

    Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband.

    Following sometimes can be difficult, but it is part of being transformed and renewed. If you fall short of the glory, repent and get back up and start following, dont stay in the mess, keep following the payoff is one of great reward. In our next lesson can we determine the difference between authetic and counterfeit. If you have any thoughts write back, lets fellowship and encourage one another in the Word of God!!!
