This week’s show was very exciting.

Gary Ivory from the Dallas Youth Advocate Program, Keesha Williams of the Omicron Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and LaSonya Williams of Comerica Bank. There was a very spirited conversation about raising children and helping provide the foundation so that they won’t go out and become members of gangs. Callers and folks in the blogtalkradio.com chatroom weighed in on the subject of child rearing. Clearly folks still believe that you should not spare the rod. I concur.

KKDA's Reporters Roundtable with Cheryl Smith, live from Harwood 609 with Hill Harper

Today’s show was really exciting. The broadcast was live from Harwood 609 Restaurant with actor/author Hill Harper discussing his book, The Conversation.

There was a nice crowd that showed up for the broadcast and breakfast. They were amazed that the menu was all-you-can-eat sausage, bacon, ham, chicken, fish, waffles, grits, eggs, hash browns, juice/mimosas, and more! All for the low price of $5.41 and Hill’s book was only $22.50.

Bilal provided the health update and Jasmine came with the news.

Before Hill arrived, we talked with Ms. Archie Marshall and Raul Morales of the Dallas County Advocate Program. They are having a banquet on October 22 and Dallas County District Attorney Craig Watkins will be the speaker. For more information, log on to www.yapinc.org

Then Cammy Jackson and Denise Cameron of the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, Denice, Ella Goode Johnson and other representatives of the Head Turning Hats program discussed their program to focus on breast cancer detection and prevention. The event will be on October 24 at 2:30 pm at the Community Missionary Baptist Church, 115 W. Beltline Road in DeSoto. It’s a Fair for Women that includes a fashion show, best hat show and vendors. www.moccacosmetics.com.

Businesswoman Debra Mars and Toska Medlock-Lee made a presentation to Hill and talked about the Obama ornament that she designed.

The discussion with Hill centered around why he wrote the book, The Conversation and how men and women, especially Black men and women can have better relationships. Hill talked candidly about barriers that keep black men and women from moving to the next level.  His perspective was very interesting.  You have to read this book!

Byron Pitts will be signing his book on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Harwood 609 and Hill talked about what a great guy Byron is.
