This is Norma Adams Wade Week and the show is dedicated to this outstanding Dallas Morning News columnist.

Norma will be honored on September 15 at 6 p.m. at the African American Museum and Rev. Charles Stovall, Sen. Royce West, Joyce Ann Brown of MASS, Joy Strickland of MATV and Bernice J. Washington are presenting. Charles Winslow will be performing and Peaches Party Package is the caterer. You can also visit the George Washington Carver Exhibit while you are there!

Jasmine was here with the news and Bilal provided the health report.

I opened with talk about U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson ( or Addison Graves Wilson Jr. who took office in December 2001) of South Carolina calling President Barack Obama a liar, and the blatant disrespect the president has been subjected to. I gave numbers for Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (202-225-8885) or (214) 922-8885 and Rep Ralph Hall (202)225-6673 or (972)771-9118 to express their thoughts on the issue.

It was reported that Betty Culbreath said in an interview, "I purchased a gun a few days ago, because as much as you hate him, with Perry putting fuel on the fire, you people will start killing black folk like back in the Klan days and I want to be ready," in response to a Trey Garrison column critical of President Obama.

My first guest was Shirley Miller of Children's Medical Center, talking about Sickle Cell Disease. A member of the National Board for Sickle Cell, Shirley said a hallmark of the disease is pain. Zakee Dean and Norris were two callers who talked about the disease. Another caller had a question about whether diabetes was hereditary and Bilal responded. He talked about controlling weight and I mentioned one of my favorite comedians, David A. Arnold who said folks make resolutions saying they will lose 50 pounds and he says, "how about not gaining another 30?!"

Carolyn Matthews, who is president of the North Dallas Suburban Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., participated in the discussion, talking about Delta's health initiatives. She also talked about the Bowl-a-thon the chapter has scheduled for September 19 at 5:30 at the USA Bowl (home of the Don't Believe the Hype Celebrity Bowl-a-thon). Registration is $20 per person and you can find out more information on the site, www.dstnsda.org. Reporters Roundtable with Cheryl Smith and Allison Whitehead and Grace Carleton--dedicated to my mot

This show is dedicated to my mother, Earline, who will celebrate her 75th birthday on September 10.

As I opened the show, I had to wonder aloud why conscientious Democrats and Republicans or even just intelligent people are remaining silent as people continue to take pot shots at President Obama. When people are making disparaging remarks about the president and saying that they are keeping their children out of school on the day that the president is speaking, you have others being noticeably quiet.

The show opened with Jasmine with news, Bilal with health and Andrew with sports.

My first guest was Allison Whitehead of Alley's House who joined me to talk about the high rate of repeat teen pregnancies. She said that kids start getting involved sexually because they are not getting the education that they need, she said. Alley's House tells them about the hardships of pregnancy.
Alley's House needs volunteer tutors, childcare workers, mentors. Call 214-915-9945 or log on to www.alleyshouse.org

Grace Carleton of Carleton and Company talked about accelerating business growth for women of color. There will be a Dallas Forum on Tuesday September 8, 2009 and you can register by calling 703-556-7162. Shelia Detrick Brooks is in town for the conference.

Ambassador Ron Kirk and his beautiful wife, Matrice were at the Sorrell nuptials on Saturday. Congratulations to Michael J. and Natalie Sorrell, who were married yesterday at Friendship West Baptist Church. Dr. Freddy Haynes officiated and he made me want to get married AGAIN. Vincent Hall sang and he was wonderful.

The Temptations with Dennis Edwards will be at Harwood 609 on this Friday and Saturday at 7:30 P.M. Call 214-740-0609 for reservations.

The Diabetes Health and Wellness Institute at Juanita J. Craft Recreation Center Groundbreaking ceremony will be on September 22 at 9:30-10:30a.m.

Call the Dallas Morning News at 214 977 8222 and tell them about their coverage. They told readers where to find the Michael Jackson coverage on his birthday but they did not mention TV One or BET. There’s also the issue of the disproportionate number of African Americans on their new steam.

Meatball called in and made a statement that was sure to cause controversy--Muslim girls don’t get pregnant, but Christian girls do.

    SHOUT OUTS---

-Natalie Carpenter is now Natalie White and she repeated her nuptials in Toronto on Friday for her family!

-Condolences to the families of attorney Gene Gaines.
