We opened the show with Pass The Peas by the JBs. It's back to school time!
This show is dedicated to the memory of Nate Quick who was on our sister station, KRNB. He died last week and a memorial service will be held at 10a.m. at IBOC.
Jasmine, Bilal and Andrew were here with their reports on news, health and black college sports.
Joyce Ann Brown spent almost a decade in prison for a crime she didn't commit and next year a movie will be made of her life. Joyce joined me today to talk about the movie that actor Brian Dennehy will be directing, about her life. The working name of the movie is "Redemption." November 3, marks 20 years since she was released and on November 7 there will be a celebration in her honor. Mr. Dennehy is expected to be there. As the chair of her 10th anniversary celebration, I will be there also.
As we talked about the innocent being imprisoned, I had to ask the question, "what happened to James Broadnax?" He's the man who was sentenced to death for the murder of Stephen Swan and when Stephen's mother was telling how he had devastated her life, Mr. Broadnax laughed.
Next Harmona P. Epps of Grambling State Univerity, Darrell Davis of Prairie View A&M University and Lajun "Pete" Burks of Grambling joined me to talk about the HBCU Brunch on Saturday at 11am at the Hilton Lincoln Centre, 5410 LBJ Freeway. For tickets, call 214-658-8303 or log on to www.gsudallas.com. Harmona said the Brunch will be a panel discussion on the State of the Black College. Mr. Davis will be the moderator. Darrell is a DEA forensic scientist and he wants to help bring forensic science programs into HBCUs. Lajun is a head concierge for the Dallas Cowboys. He played under Doug Williams at Grambling.
