    Reporters Roundtable with Cheryl Smith

This week, the show opened with Jasmine with the news. Bilal and Andrew Whigham were missing in action.

Karina Leon and Terri Woodruff from Krispy Kreme joined me to talk about the Blood Drive that will take place on August 1 at stores in Grapevine, Frisco, Plano, Fort Worth, Arlington and Dallas, from 7a.m. - noon. They hope to get at least 50 pints of blood. Karina and Terri said you can also register at www.e-donor.com.

Folks donating blood will get THREE donuts--one in the shape of a heart with 3 dots, because three lives are saved for every pint of blood given!

Everyone is also encouraged to bring non-perishable foods to any of the Krispy Kreme stores to benefit the North Texas Food Bank.

Krispy Kreme will also kick off its Back to School Drive, which will go through September.

"We're trying to get more involved in the community," said Karina.

Karina is the Asst. General Manager at the store located at 3521 N. Central Expressway in Plano.

We were joined by Jessica Byars, who is an alum of Paul Quinn College and public relations chair for the PQC National Alumni Association. Jessica talked about identifying alumni members and encouraging them to support the school. "We have to start at home," she said.

In addition to Paul Quinn Giving Day on August 1 on the college campus, alumni are working on a gospel concert for August 15.

At Jessica's 40th birthday party earlier this year, she raised $5500. She also talked about how she will be celebrating her 20th year as a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and how important it is to keep the chapters alive on campus, by keeping the school alive.

To give to Paul Quinn, mail donations to 3837 Simpson Stuart Road, Dallas 75241.

The National Urban League is meeting in Chicago in two weeks. The Blue Notes will perform at the Urban League of Greater Dallas' Gala on August 22 at the Hilton Anatole.

The NAACP is meeting now in New York and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc is meeting in New Orleans.

The No Limit Women's Expo will be at the Richardson Civic Center on August 1 and Krispy Kreme will be there with donuts. Admission is $1 or free with a canned food donation, also benefiting the North Texas Food Bank.

August 1 is a busy day. Debra Brown and Vernell Sturns will be getting married!

I will be broadcasting live from Harwood 609 on August 2 and I am encouraging all alumni of HBCUs and organizations to join me.

    UniverSoul Circus
will be July 29-August 2 at the Southwest Center Mall.

    SHOUT OUTS--

-Congratulations to Dr. Regina Benjamin. This graduate of Xavier University and member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has been nominated as U.S. Surgeon General

-Atty Kim Askew who testified at the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearings for Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Representing the American Bar Association, Atty. Askew was EXCELLENT.

He is going to Prairie View A&M University where he will major in Architecture with a minor in civil engineering. He was at the Don't Believe the Hype Celebrity Bowl-a-thon with his parents. His Dad, Constable Derick Evans has won the bowl-a-thon three years in a row!

-My team from the bowl-a-thon. Amber, Ken, Cliff Sneed, Lawyer Denson --could have won first place without me!
